11. Dynamics of proteinopathies in Alzheimer’s disease as measured by PET and CSF biomarkers
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the extracellular aggregation of the amyloid-β (Aβ; amyloid) peptide and the intraneuronal accumulation of the protein tau. Independently, and in concert, these protein opathies lead to the loss of synapses and neurons (neurodegeneration). LÄS MER
12. Biochemical markers in dementia - Exploring Swedish registry data and the human proteome
Sammanfattning : Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers of neurodegenerative diseases have a wide scope of applications in diagnostics, prognosis assessment, disease staging, treatment evaluation and more. In this PhD project we aimed to expand the understanding of the properties of known CSF biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other neurodegenerative diseases, including the most prevalent dementia disorders. 13. Interplay between autophagy and amyloid beta metabolism in Alzheimer’s disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the most common neurodegenerative disease, is characterized by two pathological hallmarks: extracellular amyloid-beta peptide (Aβ) plaque depositions and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) composed of intracellular hyperphosphorylated tau aggregations. A cellular degradation system, autophagy is additionally dysfunctional in AD and plays a key role in Aβ and tau metabolisms. LÄS MER
14. Neuron-to-neuron propagation of neurodegenerative proteins; relation to degradative systems
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) are defined by neurodegeneration and accumulations of misfolded proteins that spread through the brain in a well characterized manner. In AD these accumulations consist mainly of β-amyloid (Aβ) and tau, while in PD, α-synuclein (α-syn) make up the characteristic lewy pathology. LÄS MER
15. Allergy and Alzheimer disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive dementia with devastating effects for the patients and their families. The treatments available are purely symptomatic and there is need for treatment strategies aiming at the etiopathogenesis of AD. LÄS MER
