26. Antibody activation of sensory neurons : exploring novel pain mechanisms in rheumatoid arthritis
Sammanfattning : Chronic pain is a worldwide major problem that presents several challenges due to lack of treatment efficacy and/or side effects associated with long-term usage of analgesics. Autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are often characterized by pain components, which generally poorly respond to drug treatment. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this thesis were to investigate the effects of an aerobic exercise program and the impact of migraine and co-existing TTH and NP in persons with these combined conditions. This thesis is based on four studies. In study I, a new questionnaire, Impact of Migraine, TTH and NP (Impact M-TTH-NP), was developed. LÄS MER
28. Implications of autonomic nervous system and central inflammatory parameters for the perception of pain in fibromyalgia patients
Sammanfattning : Dysfunctions of the autonomic nervous system and of endogenous pain modulation have been reported in fibromyalgia (FM) patients. The dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system, i.e. LÄS MER
29. Neural circuits engaged in mastication and orofacial nociception
Sammanfattning : A deeper understanding of both movement control and the effects of nociceptor inputs on our motor systems is critical for proper clinical diagnosis of musculo-skeletal dysfunctions and for development of novel rehabilitation schemes. In the jaw system, masticatory movements are produced by a central pattern generator (CPG) located in the brainstem. LÄS MER
30. Vulvar vestibulitis syndrome : pathophysiology of the vestibular mucosa
Sammanfattning : Objective: The main purpose of the study was to survey possible pathophysiological changes of the vestibular mucosa in women with vulvar vestibulitis syndrome with regard to the clinical findings of superficial dyspareunia and mucosal erythema. Methods: Biopsies analysed with immunohistochemistry were used to study the morphology, distribution and neuropeptide content of the peripheral nerves, and the microvascularisation of the vestibular mucosa.
