  1. 11. Long-term effects of acupuncture

    Författare :Christer Carlsson; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical medicine; stress-induced analgesia.; strong vs gentle stimulation; vomiting; nausea; hyperemesis gravidarum; urine incontinence; C-fibre response; WDR neurons; manual acupuncture; long term effects; pain categories; chronic low back pain; Acupuncture; randomised placebo-controlled trial; kinesitherapy; revalidation; rehabilitation; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In a retrospective follow-up study, n=202, long-term pain relief (>6 months) after a course of acupuncture treatments was found mainly among patients with chronic nociceptive pain while patients with neurogenic or psychogenic pain did not benefit much. In a placebo-controlled randomised single-blind long-term study with independent observer of chronic nociceptive low back pain, n=50, it was found that acupuncture, was significantly superior to true placebo in all outcome measurements, even more than 6 months after the treatment series. 2. 12. On the function endogenous pain controlling systems in healthy subjects and patients with peripheral or central neuropathic pain

    Författare :Birgitta Tuveson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Painful peripheral neuropathy; Central post-stroke pain; Dynamic mechanical allodynia; Endogenous pain modulation; Heterotopic noxious conditioning stimulation; Quantitative sensory testing; Ondansetron;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction and aim: Activity in the nociceptive system is modulated by descending inhibitory and facilitatory supraspinal endogenous control. Altered balance between inhibition and facilitation has been suggested to at least partly explain the maintenance of some persistent pain conditions. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Antibody- and osteoclast-dependent mechanisms of chronic pain

    Författare :Alexandra Jurczak; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic pain is a frequent condition that affects approximately 20% of worldwide population with a higher prevalence among women. Due to the lack of optimal treatment, chronic pain leads to decreased life quality as well as significant physical and psychological complications. LÄS MER

  4. 14. The role of pain modulation in non-suicidal self-injury

    Författare :Jens Fust; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Individuals with non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) behavior tend to report feeling little or no pain when they self-injure. Moreover, in laboratory studies the NSSI population tends to demonstrate reduced sensitivity to painful stimuli. There is reason to believe that hypoalgesia could be a risk factor for developing and maintaining NSSI. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Combined oral contraceptives : impact on the vulvar vestibular mucosa and pain mechanisms

    Författare :Ulrika Johannesson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :combined oral contraceptives; quantitative sensory testing; pain thresholds; DNIC; endogenous; pain modulation; provoked vestibulodynia; vulvar vestibulitis syndrome; morphology; vulvar mucosa; steroid receptors;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: The main aim of this thesis was to study the impact of combined oral contraceptives (COC) on the vulvar vestibular mucosa and pain mechanisms; in healthy women and in women with provoked vestibulodynia (former vulvar vestibulitis syndrome). The somatosensory perception in the vulvar vestibular mucosa of healthy women was studied with the relation to COC. LÄS MER
