  1. 6. Platelet-activating factor and lysophospatidylcholine in oxidized low density lipoprotein-mediated immune activation

    Författare :Yihui Huang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :atherosclerosis; oxidized LDL; platelet-activating factor PAF ; Iysophosphatidylcholine LPC ; anti-MHC class II antibodies; antibody; T cells; cytokine; IFN-[gamma]; IL-6; IL-4; TNF-[alpha]; a PAF specific receptor antagonist-WEB2170;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation is a risk factor for development of cardiovascular disease, as in addition to known risk factors such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, smoking and diabetes. Patients with inflammatory diseases including SLE have an enhanced risk of cardiovascular disease. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Immune reactions against oxidatively modified low density lipoproteins in patients with atherosclrosis and healthy individuals

    Författare :Ruihua Wu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Immune-inflammatory mechanisms are involved in the development of atherosclerosis, and immune reactions against oxidatively modified LDL have received special interest. In the present study, we have investigated the effect of oxLDL on the stimulation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) to increased DNA-synthesis and cytotoxicity and the nature and the prevalence of antibodies against oxLDL in healthy individuals and in patients with atherosclerosis. 3. 8. Oxidized Lipids and Lysosomal Pathology in Atherogenesis

    Författare :Wei Li; Wendy Jessup; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Macrophages take up large amount of exogenous materials such as oxidatively modified low-density lipoproteins (oxLDL) and lysosomotropic agents. OxLDL is taken up into macrophage lysosomes through receptor-mediated endocytosis, but poorly degraded, resulting in foam cell formation. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Natural antibodies against phosphorylcholine as potential protective factors in atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease and systemic lupus erythematosus

    Författare :Jun Su; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is the most important contributor to cardiovascular disease (CVD). Although it was initially considered as a bland lipid storage disease, processes of inflammation and autoimmunity are now considered to play a major role in atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Oxidative stress, macrophages, iron, and atherosclerosis

    Författare :Wei Li; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Macrophages have a great capacity to take up exogenous material, such as oxidatively modified low density lipoproteins (oxLDL) and different sources of iron containing structures. OxLDL is taken up into macrophage lysosomes by receptor-mediated endocytosis, but poorly degraded, resulting in foam-cell formation. LÄS MER
