  1. 36. A study of the generation of diversity in the central nervous system

    Författare :Joanna Applequist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Developmental biology is concerned with understanding the mechanisms that govern the generation of a whole organism starting from one single cell. In the central nervous system (CNS) the development of different classes of neurons and glial cells involves both extrinsic signals and intrinsic cues that together govern the specification of different cell fates dependent on position within the CNS and the time of generation. 2. 37. Genetic pathways controlling CNS development : The role of Notch signaling in regulating daughter cell proliferation in Drosophila

    Författare :Caroline Bivik Stadler; Stefan Thor; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Allison Bardin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The human central nervous system (CNS) displays the greatest cellular diversity of any organ system, consisting of billions of neurons, of numerous cell sub-types, interconnected in a vast network. Given this enormous complexity, decoding the genetic programs controlling the multistep process of CNS development remains a major challenge. LÄS MER

  3. 38. Transcription Factor AP-2 in Relation to Serotonergic Functions in the Central Nervous System

    Författare :Mattias Damberg; Elias Eriksson; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Eukaryotic gene transcription plays a regulatory role in mammalian developmental processes. It has been shown that transcriptional control is an important mechanism for specification of neurotransmitter phenotypes. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Exploration of large molecular datasets using global gene networks : computational methods and tools

    Författare :Ashwini Priya Jeggari; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Defining gene expression profiles and mapping complex interactions between molecular regulators and proteins is a key for understanding biological processes and the functional properties of cells, which is therefore, the focus on numerous experimental studies. Small-scale biochemical analyses deliver high-quality data, but lack coverage, whereas high throughput sequencing reveals thousands of interactions which can be error-prone and require proper computational methods to discover true relations. 5. 40. Mechanisms of cell diversification

    Författare :Christopher Winston Uhde; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cell identity and function is determined by the intrinsic wiring of the gene regulatory network that endows progenitors with the competence to respond appropriately to extrinsic cues in a spatiotemporally-dependent manner. One such class of cues, morphogens, instruct cells in their identity by virtue of a concentration gradient, but how this is interpreted at gene regulatory levels to result in sharp and robust boundaries of gene expression is poorly understood.
