11. Diversity of landraces and wild forms of watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) : distribution and implications for conservation in southern Africa, with emphasis on Zimbabwe
Sammanfattning : Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) is commonly grown in traditional agrosystems throughout the drought-prone Southern Africa as a staple food (edible seeds), a dessert food (edible flesh), and for animal feed. Several morphotypes of watermelon are found in this area; sweet watermelon, cooking melon and seed melon landraces of the traditional agrosystems; and possibly introgressed types which are regarded as agronomic weeds. 12. Novel approaches to the environments and ecosystems of the fish-tetrapod transition
Sammanfattning : The fish-tetrapod transition is one of the most important evolutionary events in Earth’s history, giving rise to terrestrial vertebrates around 390 million years ago. It set the stage for a series of evolutionary events that ultimately resulted in modern-day terrestrial vertebrates including ourselves. LÄS MER
13. Study of phages for phage therapy : An Escherichia coli experience
Sammanfattning : The world is rapidly moving toward a post-antibiotic era as effective antibiotics are becoming fewer. phage therapy is a potentially possible method for treating infectious diseases and counts as an alternative method for antibiotic therapy. LÄS MER
14. Effect of virulence factors on survival strategies of vibrio cholerae and vibrio mimicus
Sammanfattning : Vibrio is a genus of gram-negative bacteria comprising nearly 70 species and they are clinically human pathogens that can cause many infections. This study is mainly based on two species such as Vibrio cholerae O1 El Tor, which cause cholera disease and Vibrio mimicus, that cause gastroenteritis, open wounds infection, and septicemia. LÄS MER
15. Genomic and morphological diversity of marine planktonic diatom-diazotroph associations : a continuum of integration and diversification through geological time
Sammanfattning : Symbioses between eukaryotes and nitrogen (N2)-fixing cyanobacteria (or diazotrophs) are quite common in the plankton community. A few genera of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) such as Rhizosolenia, Hemiaulus and Chaetoceros are well known to form symbioses with the heterocystous diazotrophic cyanobacteria Richelia intracellularis and Calothrix rhizosoleniae.
