  1. 11. Diversity of landraces and wild forms of watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) : distribution and implications for conservation in southern Africa, with emphasis on Zimbabwe

    Författare :Claid Mujaju; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) is commonly grown in traditional agrosystems throughout the drought-prone Southern Africa as a staple food (edible seeds), a dessert food (edible flesh), and for animal feed. Several morphotypes of watermelon are found in this area; sweet watermelon, cooking melon and seed melon landraces of the traditional agrosystems; and possibly introgressed types which are regarded as agronomic weeds. 2. 12. Novel approaches to the environments and ecosystems of the fish-tetrapod transition

    Författare :Hannah Byrne; Per Ahlberg; Grzegorz Niedzwiedzki; Henning Blom; Benjamin P. Kear; Matt Friedman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fish-tetrapod transition; synchrotron scanning; tides; coprolites; Carboniferous;

    Sammanfattning : The fish-tetrapod transition is one of the most important evolutionary events in Earth’s history, giving rise to terrestrial vertebrates around 390 million years ago. It set the stage for a series of evolutionary events that ultimately resulted in modern-day terrestrial vertebrates including ourselves. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Study of phages for phage therapy : An Escherichia coli experience

    Författare :Mohammadali Khan Mirzaei; Anders Nilsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The world is rapidly moving toward a post-antibiotic era as effective antibiotics are becoming fewer. phage therapy is a potentially possible method for treating infectious diseases and counts as an alternative method for antibiotic therapy. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Effect of virulence factors on survival strategies of vibrio cholerae and vibrio mimicus

    Författare :Soni Priya Valeru; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Vibrio cholerae;

    Sammanfattning : Vibrio is a genus of gram-negative bacteria comprising nearly 70 species and they are clinically human pathogens that can cause many infections. This study is mainly based on two species such as Vibrio cholerae O1 El Tor, which cause cholera disease and Vibrio mimicus, that cause gastroenteritis, open wounds infection, and septicemia. 5. 15. Genomic and morphological diversity of marine planktonic diatom-diazotroph associations : a continuum of integration and diversification through geological time

    Författare :Andrea Caputo; Rachel Ann Foster; Monika Quinones Winder; Ramon Massana; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytoplankton; diatoms; cyanobacteria; diazotrophs; symbiosis; evolution; phylogenetics; confocal microscopy; qPCR; CARD-FISH; tropics; sub-tropics; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Symbioses between eukaryotes and nitrogen (N2)-fixing cyanobacteria (or diazotrophs) are quite common in the plankton community. A few genera of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) such as Rhizosolenia, Hemiaulus and Chaetoceros are well known to form symbioses with the heterocystous diazotrophic cyanobacteria Richelia intracellularis and Calothrix rhizosoleniae.
