  1. 6. Molecular and structural studies of proteins required for mitochondrial DNA maintenance

    Författare :Carlos Pardo-Hernandez; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mtDNA; LONP1; POLγ; mtDNA maintenance; mitochondrial disease; TWINKLE; mitochondria;

    Sammanfattning : Mitochondria are membrane-bound organelles that produce the majority of ATP used to drive metabolic processes in eukaryotic cells. A unique feature of mitochondria is the existence of a separate mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), which codes for thirteen proteins needed for oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). LÄS MER

  2. 7. Application of Mitochondrial DNA Analysis in Contemporary and Historical Samples

    Författare :Maria Lembring; Marie Allen; Niels Morling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Forensic genetics; Mitochondrial DNA; HVI HVII; Population database; Haplotype; Haplogroup; Ancient DNA; Historical DNA samples; skeletal remains; Vasa museum; Medieval samples; Copernicus; Göring; Genetik; Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The mitochondrion is a tiny organelle that is the power supplier of the cell and vital to the functioning of the body organs. Additionally it contains a small circular genome of about 16 kb, present in many copies which makes the mitochondrial DNA more viable than nuclear DNA. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Inflammatogenic properties of endogenous DNA

    Författare :Shahin Hajizadeh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Inflammation; mtDNA; oxidized DNA; SF; CSF; RA; dementia;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterial DNA and CpG-containing oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) induce host inflammatory responses as a result of their content of unmethylated ¡§CpG motifs¡¨. Since the CpG motifs in the mitochondrial (mt) genome are in this respect similar to bacterial DNA, in that they are non-methylated, we investigated whether mtDNA also displays inflammatogenic potential. 4. 9. Molecular insights into primer removal during mtDNA replication

    Författare :Ali Al-Behadili; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mitochondria; Mitochondrial DNA replication; DNA replication; Primer removal; RNase H1; Primer formation; Replication initiation; mitochondrial diseases;

    Sammanfattning : Mitochondria are vital for cell survival, and the primary producers of ATP, the energy currency used for various metabolic processes. Mitochondria are unique from other cellular compartments because they have their own genomes of circular small double-stranded DNA (mtDNA) of approximately 16. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Crisis in Energy Metabolism - Mitochondrial Defects and a New Disease Entity

    Författare :Gittan Kollberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Energy metabolism; Mitochondrial Disorders; mtDNA; multiple mtDNA deletions; Alpers-Huttenlocher syndrome; POLG1; GYS1; glycogen synthase; point mutation; Polymerase gamma;

    Sammanfattning : Impairment of energy metabolism may be associated with severe implications for affected individuals since all fundamental cell functions are energy-dependent. Disorders of energy metabolism are often genetic and associated with defects in the oxidative phosphorylation in mitochondria. LÄS MER
