  1. 1. Evolution of a silicic magma reservoir in the upper crust : Reyðarártindur pluton, Southeast Iceland

    Författare :Emma Rhodes; Steffi Burchardt; Abigail Barker; Charles F. Parker; Alexander Cruden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma; magma emplacement; magma reservoir; floor subsidence; piecemeal subsidence; granite; pluton; cap-rock; magma mingling; magma plumbing systems; volcanic and igneous plumbing systems; eruption; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : Field observations of extinct and exposed magma reservoirs shed light on processes operating in the roots of presently active volcanoes. The Reyðarártindur pluton, Southeast Iceland is an example of a fossil shallow magma reservoir that fed eruptions. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Tree Rings as Sensitive Proxies of Past Climate Change

    Författare :Håkan Grudd; Wibjörn Karlén; Brian Luckman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tree ring; width; density; climate; temperature; change; variability; sensitivity; Torneträsk; Tornetrask; Sweden; Fennoscandia; explosive; volcanic; eruption; Santorini; Thera; subfossil; Fitzroya; Chile; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : In the boreal forests of the Northern Hemisphere, time series of tree-ring width (TRW) and maximum density in the latewood (MXD) are highly correlated to local instrumental summer-temperature data and are thus widely used as proxies in high-resolution climate reconstructions. Hence, much of our present knowledge about climatic variability in the last millennium is based on tree-rings. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cost and benefits of cone beam computed tomography : for maxillary canines with eruption disturbance

    Författare :Helena Christell; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diagnostic methods; Cost-effectiveness; Economic evaluation; Systematic review; Cost-analysis; Radiology; Odontology; CBCT; Cone beam computed tomography;

    Sammanfattning : I tandvården finns allt fler metoder för prevention, diagnostik och behandling. Eftersom resurserna är begränsade bör den metod väljas där nyttan uppväger kostnaden. Idag saknas dock vetenskapliga belägg gällande kostnadseffektivitet för undersökning med Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Characterising volcanic magma plumbing systems : A tool to improve eruption forecasting at hazardous volcanoes

    Författare :David A. Budd; Valentin Troll; Tod Waight; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma plumbing; oxygen isotopes; thermobarometry; crustal assimilation; Katla; Merapi; Kelud; Toba; volcanic hazards; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis attempts to develop our understanding of volcanic magma plumbing systems and the magmatic processes that operate within them, such as fractional crystallisation, crustal partial melting, assimilation, and magma mixing. I utilise petrology, rock and mineral geochemistry, and isotope systematics to seek to improve our ability to forecast the eruptive frequency and style of active volcanoes, an aspect often lacking in current volcano monitoring efforts. 5. 5. Investigating Time-Varying Processes Using Seismicity and Time-Dependent Tomography

    Författare :Alex Hobé; Ari Tryggvason; Olafur Gudmundsson; Roland Roberts; Nicholas Rawlinson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Time-Dependent Tomography; Joint Inversion; Geothermal Energy; Volcanotectonics; Seismic Unrest; Fagradalsfjall Eruption; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Sammanfattning : Our global society is affected by, and makes use of, many time-varying processes. Processes related to geothermal energy and CO2 sequestration can help mitigate climate change and reduce the number of premature deaths (millions annually) due to air pollution from fossil fuels.
