1. Evolution of a silicic magma reservoir in the upper crust : Reyðarártindur pluton, Southeast Iceland
Sammanfattning : Field observations of extinct and exposed magma reservoirs shed light on processes operating in the roots of presently active volcanoes. The Reyðarártindur pluton, Southeast Iceland is an example of a fossil shallow magma reservoir that fed eruptions. LÄS MER
2. Tree Rings as Sensitive Proxies of Past Climate Change
Sammanfattning : In the boreal forests of the Northern Hemisphere, time series of tree-ring width (TRW) and maximum density in the latewood (MXD) are highly correlated to local instrumental summer-temperature data and are thus widely used as proxies in high-resolution climate reconstructions. Hence, much of our present knowledge about climatic variability in the last millennium is based on tree-rings. LÄS MER
3. Cost and benefits of cone beam computed tomography : for maxillary canines with eruption disturbance
4. Characterising volcanic magma plumbing systems : A tool to improve eruption forecasting at hazardous volcanoes
Sammanfattning : This thesis attempts to develop our understanding of volcanic magma plumbing systems and the magmatic processes that operate within them, such as fractional crystallisation, crustal partial melting, assimilation, and magma mixing. I utilise petrology, rock and mineral geochemistry, and isotope systematics to seek to improve our ability to forecast the eruptive frequency and style of active volcanoes, an aspect often lacking in current volcano monitoring efforts. 5. Investigating Time-Varying Processes Using Seismicity and Time-Dependent Tomography
Sammanfattning : Our global society is affected by, and makes use of, many time-varying processes. Processes related to geothermal energy and CO2 sequestration can help mitigate climate change and reduce the number of premature deaths (millions annually) due to air pollution from fossil fuels.
