1. 3D Structure and Emplacement of the Alnö Alkaline and Carbonatite Complex, Sweden : Integrated Geophysical and Physical Property Investigations
Sammanfattning : Carbonatites are carbonate-rich magmatic rocks that are rare and of great relevance for our understanding of crustal and mantle processes. Although found on all continents and in settings ranging from Archaean to present-day, their deeper plumbing system is still poorly understood. LÄS MER
2. Magma plumbing architecture in Indonesia and the North Atlantic Igneous Province
Sammanfattning : Magma plumbing systems represent the physical framework of magma transport and storage from the source region in the mantle, through the crust, until reaching the surface in a volcanic eruption. Characterising the different aspects of magma plumbing, in particular the distribution of magma storage zones throughout the crust, is of key importance to better understand the behaviour of individual volcanoes. 3. Processes of Magma-crust Interaction : Insights from Geochemistry and Experimental Petrology
Sammanfattning : This work focuses on crustal interaction in magmatic systems, drawing on experimental petrology and elemental and isotope geochemistry. Various magma-chamber processes such as magma-mixing, fractional crystallisation and magma-crust interaction are explored throughout the papers comprising the thesis. LÄS MER
4. Trans-crustal magma storage in contrasting tectonic settings
Sammanfattning : Magmatic plumbing systems comprise magma chambers, sheet intrusions, and conduits which link the Earth’s deep interior with the Earth’s surface. As such, they are the structural framework of magma transport and storage that is governed by complex physical and chemical processes in magma reservoirs and through the interaction of magma bodies with surrounding crustal rocks over timescales from hours to millions of years. 5. Magma-Crust Interaction at Subduction Zone Volcanoes
Sammanfattning : The focus of this work is magma-crust interaction processes and associated crustal volatile release in subduction zone volcanoes, drawing on rock, mineral, and gas geochemistry as well as experimental petrology. Understanding the multitude of differentiation processes that modify an original magma during ascent to the surface is vital to unravel the contributions of the various sources that contribute to the final magmas erupted at volcanoes.
