  1. 16. Studies of the physiological status of bacteria used for environmental applications

    Författare :Ninwe Maraha; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Today, it is difficult to study the physiological status of inoculants in complex environments, such as soil. In this thesis, we describe the combined use of marker genes and viability stains to determine the physiological status of the bacterial cells in pure cultures and in soil. LÄS MER

  2. 17. CYP2C19 and CYP2C9 : new aspects of pharmacogenetics and transcriptional regulation

    Författare :Jessica Mwinyi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cytochrome P450s (CYPs) are responsible for approximately 75% of the phase I-dependent drug metabolism. Several important polymorphisms in these enzymes are known to significantly affect the individual drug response. LÄS MER

  3. 18. In vivo bioluminescence imaging in preclinical trials of genetic vaccines

    Författare :Stefan Petkov; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : DNA immunization is a rapidly developing vaccine platform for infectious diseases, cancer and allergies. The efficiency of DNA vaccination is largely determined by the efficiency of delivery and subsequent expression of genes encoding microbial and tumor antigens or allergens in the cells of vaccine recipients. 4. 19. Cytochrome P450 enzymes in the biosynthesis and metabolism of bile acids and active forms of vitamin D

    Författare :Zufan Araya; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Cytochrome P450 enzymes catalyzing hydroxylations in the biosynthesis and metabolism of bile acids and active forms of vitamin D3 were studied.A microsomal cytochrome P450 enzyme with a molecular mass of 53 kDa, catalyzing the 6α-hydroxylation of taurochenodeoxycholic acid was purfied from pig liver microsomes and characterized with respect to catalytic and electrophoretic properties as well as polyclonal antibodies. 5. 20. Cell-penetrating peptides : Uptake mechanism and the role of receptors

    Författare :Henrik Helmfors; Ülo Langel; Hanne Mørck Nielsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Sammanfattning : Genes are the major regulators of biological processes in every living thing. Problems with gene regulation can cause serious problems for the organism; for example, most cancers have some kind of genetic component. Regulation of biological processes using oligonucleotides can potentially be a therapy for any ailment, not just cancer. LÄS MER
