11. Origin and processing of laser Doppler spectra
Sammanfattning : Laser Doppler Flowmetry (LDF) is a technique for studying microvascular blood flow. Laser light is guided to the tissue and the backscattered light, after being Doppler shifted by moving Red Blood Cells (RBCs), is detected using a heterodyne process. LÄS MER
12. Rhinostereometry and laser doppler flowmetry : simultaneous measurements of inflammation and steroid effects in normal and allergic human nasal mucosa
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of a combination of non-invasive methods for measuring different aspects of inflammation simultaneously in a selected part of the human nasal mucosa. It also describes use of this combination in studies of allergic nasal mucosa and the effects of intranasal steroids before and during the allergy season. LÄS MER
13. Liver transplantation in man. Gastrointestinal perfusion and inflammatory response
Sammanfattning : Patients undergoing liver transplantation develop a systemic inflammatory response which eventually continues with development of a multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). Gastro-intestinal hypoxia or bacterial translocation has been proposed as the "motor" of MODS. LÄS MER
14. Preservation of parathyroid function in thyroid and parathyroid surgery
Sammanfattning : Preservation of normal parathyroid function and calcium homeostasis after operations on the thyroid and parathyroid glands is a difficult assignment in endocrine surgery, and it is crucial to minimise the risks of permanent postoperative hypoparathyroidism. The aim of this thesis was to study the vascular supply of the parathyroid glands and the revascularisation, growth, and function of transplanted parathyroid tissue, in order to add new information about parathyroid preservation. 15. Assessment of microvascular function by use of transdermal iontophoresis : methodological aspects
Sammanfattning : Assessment of the microcirculation is of major importance in understanding the physiology of the vasculature and in assessing te vascular effects of pathological conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and sepsis. Transdermal iontophoresis can be used to non‐invasively introduce vasoactive drugs into the skin. LÄS MER
