16. Chronic anterior cruciate ligament tear : knee function and knee extensor muscle size, morphology and function before and after surgical reconstruction
Sammanfattning : Knee function was evaluated by knee score, activity level, clinical findings and performance tests, muscle size by computerized tomography (CT), morphology by light (LM) and electron microscopy (EM), muscle function by electromyography (EMG) and isokinetic performance in 29 patients with chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Preoperatively CT disclosed a significant mean atrophy of the quadriceps and nonsignificant changes of the other muscle areas of the injured leg. LÄS MER
17. The relevance and assessment of limb muscle function in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Sammanfattning : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease that is characterised by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation. Consequences beyond the airways and lungs are common, and include limb muscle dysfunction. LÄS MER
18. STRENGTH TRAINING AFTER STROKE: EFFECTS ON MUSCLE FUNCTION, GAIT PERFORMANCE AND PERCEIVED PARTICIPATION
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate the effects of strength training on muscle function, gait performance and perceived participation in subjects with chronic mild to moderate post-stroke hemiparesis. A main impairment after stroke is reduced muscle strength. LÄS MER
19. Sagittal plane knee motion during activity in the anterior cruciate ligament deficient knee
Sammanfattning : A complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) results in static and often in functional instability. After an ACL-injury, most patients have to decrease their activity level, while some can cope with their injury and manage to keep a high activity level. LÄS MER
20. Neurophysiological evaluation of the motor performance in patients with Parkinson's disease
Sammanfattning : This study, comprising six separate papers, is concerned with the description and evaluation of some of the motor disturbances seen in Parkinson patients. Motor performances with different complexity in movement were investigated in patients with ideopathic Parkinson's disease. LÄS MER
