  1. 1. On Acute Thrombo-Embolic Occlusion of the Superior Mesenteric Artery

    Författare :Stefan Acosta; Martin Björck; Mats Ögren; Bengt Lindblad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; acute thrombo-embolic occlusion; superior mesenteric artery; intestinal infarction; D-Dimer; intestinal revascularisation; population-based study; incidence; autopsy; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Acute thrombo-embolic occlusion of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) with intestinal infarction is a lethal disease, difficult to diagnose in time, with unknown incidence and cause-specific mortality. The aim of this thesis was to characterize the disease and to develop diagnostic methods. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Studies on the effects of thyroid hormone on cholesterol and lipoprotein metabolism

    Författare :Ylva Bonde; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Elevated plasma lipids, particularly cholesterol within low density lipoproteins, is an important risk factor for developing atherosclerosis which can cause angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, and stroke. Thyroid hormone (TH) has a strong influence on lipid metabolism and the aim of this thesis was to gain more insight into how TH modulates cholesterol and lipoprotein metabolism. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On certain genetic and metabolic risk factors for carotid stenosis and stroke

    Författare :Pär Wanby; Lars Brudin; Martin Carlsson; Milita Crisby; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Carotid artery diseases; Carrier proteins; genetics; Cerebrovascular accident; Cerebrovascular disorders; Genetic predisposition to disease; Polymorphism; genetic; Medicine; Medicin; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The present study evaluated genetic and metabolic factors influencing the risk of acute cerebrovascular disease (CVD) and internal carotid artery stenosis (ICA stenosis) in a Swedish community. The threonine (T) containing protein of the FABP2 A54T gene polymorphism has a greater affinity for long chain fatty acids (FFAs) than the alanine (A) containing protein. LÄS MER
