31. Studies on adult stem cells
Sammanfattning : While our bodies are aging, in quite a few tissues, new cells are born every day, till the day we die. As you are reading this sentence, there is perhaps a new neuron born in your brain (and some are dying). LÄS MER
32. Mesenchymal stem cells for repair of the peripheral and central nervous system
Sammanfattning : Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) have been shown to provide neuroprotection after transplantation into the injured nervous system. The present thesis investigates whether adult human and rat MSC differentiated along a Schwann cell lineage could increase their expression of neurotrophic factors and promote regeneration after transplantation into the injured peripheral nerve and spinal cord. 33. Pluripotent Stem Cells of Embryonic Origin : Applications in Developmental Toxicology
Sammanfattning : General toxicity evaluation and risk assessment for human exposure is essential when developing new pharmaceuticals and chemicals. Developmental toxicology is an important part of this risk assessment which consumes large resources and many laboratory animals. LÄS MER
34. Stem cells in the adult heart - 3D culture, isolation of side population cells and search for a stem cell niche
Sammanfattning : Cardiac tissue shows a poor regenerative capacity. From 2003 reports, mostly based on animal models, have showed existence of stem cells also in the heart. Using 14C measurements, a slow but steady turnover of the cardiac cells was shown in humans, around 1%/year. As a source for this regeneration endogenous stem cells have been suggested. LÄS MER
35. Stem cells for cardiac regeneration
Sammanfattning : Recent studies have demonstrated a turnover of cardiomyocytes throughout the adult life. Whether this regenerative potential is due to proliferation and differentiation of resident stem cells or to the dedifferentiation of adult cardiomyocytes remains unclear. LÄS MER
