21. Exercise and angiogenic growth factors in human skeletal muscle
Sammanfattning : Long-term electrical stimulation and endurance exercise increase the amount of capillaries in skeletal muscle. VEGF-A is a well-characterized stimulatory angiogenic growth factor and has shown to play an important role in angiogenesis in pathological conditions in humans and in physiological conditions in animal models. 22. Jejunal control of glucose homeostasis in the human body
Sammanfattning : Background: The prevalence of obesity and type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have risen dramatically over the last decades, and are major threats to the human health. Obesity, and also T2DM, is treated with lifestyle modifications, medications or by bariatric surgery, with varying success. LÄS MER
23. Resident T cells steer tissue responses in human skin
Sammanfattning : The human skin constitutes a biological barrier against threats to the body from the surrounding environment. Tissue-resident memory cells (TRM) reside in the skin and provide local memory of previous encounters with microbes and pathogens, are poised to promptly eliminating infected cells and elicit tissue-wide defense state. 24. Human muscle response to sprint exercise in a gender perspective
Sammanfattning : Anaerobic performance, muscle characteristics and acute and chronic response to sprint exercise were studied in physically active healthy women (n=35; age 24) and men (n=38; age 25). The aims of the present study were to: 1) Establish if women possess lower oxidative and glycolytic capacity, higher proportion of type I fibres and smaller type II fibre areas in relation to type I fibre areas in thigh musculature than men. 25. The serotonin receptor type 3 in chronic and experimental human muscle pain
Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to gain a better understanding of the influence of serotonin on chronic craniofacial muscle pain. The thesis comprised a basic science part and a human experimental part. LÄS MER
