31. The exosome and the maintenance of genome integrity
Sammanfattning : The RNA exosome acts on different RNA substrates and plays important roles in RNA metabolism. The fact that short non-coding RNAs are involved in the DNA damage response led us to investigate whether the exosome plays a role in DNA repair. LÄS MER
32. Genome Evolution of Neurospora tetrasperma
Sammanfattning : In this thesis work, I have used a comparative genomics approach to study a fungal model organism, Neurospora tetrasperma. My specific focus has been on genomic introgression, intron evolution, chromosomal structural rearrangements and codon usage. LÄS MER
33. Allosteric control of ALC1-catalyzed nucleosome remodeling
Sammanfattning : The genetic information of eukaryotic cells is packaged inside the nucleus as chromatin. This packaging restricts access to the DNA and therefore represents a barrier for processes such as DNA replication, repair, and gene expression. LÄS MER
34. Molecular analysis of protein complexes involved in pairing of mammalian chromosomes during meiosis
Sammanfattning : How is the accuracy of chromosomal pairing and segregation processes in dividing meiotic cells assured? This is an important question as premature or erratic segregation of chromosomes can give rise to aneuploidy, which is the leading genetic cause of pregnancy loss in humans. Meiosis is a cell division process that produces genetically unique haploid gametes from diploid cells. LÄS MER
35. Evolutionary patterns and processes of bacteriophages, particularly P2-like phages
Sammanfattning : DNA sequencing of structural genes of temperate P2-like prophages from isolates of Escherichia coli bacteria showed that the difference between these genes was very small. Separate phylogenetic analyses on the genes resulted in unresolved trees, caused by a high level of homologous recombination, which implied that homologous recombination is the most important source of new genetic variation for P2-like phages infecting E.
