31. Interacting Particle Systems: Percolation, Stochastic Domination and Randomly Evolving Environments
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we first analyze the class of one-dependent trigonometric determinantal processes and show that they are all two-block-factors. We do this by constructing the two-block-factors explicitly. Second we investigate the dynamic stability of percolation for the stochastic Ising model and the contact process. LÄS MER
32. EM Estimation in Phase Type Models
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four articles whose theme in common is the class of phase type distributions. In the first article an EM algorithm is presented to estimate the parameters of a phase type distribution of fixed order. Also, it is shown that the algorithm can be used to approximate other continuous distributions by phase type distributions. LÄS MER
33. Face Recognition : A Single View Based HMM Approach
Sammanfattning : This dissertation addresses the challenges of giving computers the ability of doing face recognition, i.e. discriminate between different faces. Face recognition systems are commonly trained with a database of face images, becoming “familiar” with the given faces. LÄS MER
34. Two Optimization Problems in Genetics : Multi-dimensional QTL Analysis and Haplotype Inference
Sammanfattning : The existence of new technologies, implemented in efficient platforms and workflows has made massive genotyping available to all fields of biology and medicine. Genetic analyses are no longer dominated by experimental work in laboratories, but rather the interpretation of the resulting data. LÄS MER
35. Probabilistic Sequence Models with Speech and Language Applications
Sammanfattning : Series data, sequences of measured values, are ubiquitous. Whenever observations are made along a path in space or time, a data sequence results. To comprehend nature and shape it to our will, or to make informed decisions based on what we know, we need methods to make sense of such data. LÄS MER
