  1. 1. Prior informed consent and hazardous trade : Regulating trade in hazardous goods at the intersection of sovereignty, free trade and environmental protection

    Författare :David Langlet; Said Mahmoudi; Günther Handl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; informed consent; PIC; trade bans; effective sovereignty; environmental law; free-trade law; hazardous substances; wastes; chemicals; GMOs; Environmental law; Miljörätt; miljörätt; Environmental Law;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation analyses international and to some extent domestic law pertaining to trade in hazardous substances. Hazardous trade regulation is found to promote or accommodate three objectives in particular: the strengthening of the ability of (importing) States to exercise control of transboundary flows of hazardous substances; the protection of human health and environment; and the avoidance of impediments to the free flow of goods. 2. 2. Environmentally Sound Management – Its status and role in the sea-land interface regulation of wastes

    Författare :Gabriela Argüello Moncayo; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Environmentally Sound Management ESM ; ship wastes; transboundary movements of wastes; ship source pollution; port reception facilities;

    Sammanfattning : Waste management is essential for ensuring the earth’s resilience and it remains one of the greatest challenges for our and future generations. As societies experience further population growth and economic development, waste management poses both challenges for the protection of the environment and human health. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mobilization of metals from mining wastes and the resuspension of contaminated sediments

    Författare :Lan Thuy Nguyen; Bo Svensson; Gunnar Jacks; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Acid Rock Drainage; hydropower plant; metal contamination; mining wastes; storm-wind; resuspension; sediment; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : In some environmental situations, environmental effects caused by elevated metals resulting from past mining and smelting activities can be observed in nearby receiving water bodies several decades after mine and smelter closure. There is a growing need for managing the hazardous solid wastes such as mining wastes as well as for assessing water quality and for sustainable management of sediment quality. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Landfills and glass dumpsites as future bank accounts of resources : waste characterization and trace elements extraction

    Författare :Yahya Jani; William Hogland; Monica Odlare; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Landfill mining; metals extraction; glass dumpsites; hazardous waste; chemical extraction; reduction-melting; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental pollution and health threats as well as scarcity of raw materials, water, food and energy are among the main challenges our world are now facing. Simultaneously, landfills and open dumpsites still are the dominant global waste disposal option even with their long term environmental impacts in case of greenhouse gases and contaminated leachates. 5. 5. Landfill mining approach for resource recovery from glass dumps into the circular economy

    Författare :Richard Mutafela; William Hogland; Lennart Mårtensson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Resource recovery; landfill mining; hazardous waste; hydrometallurgical extraction; geophysical mapping; circular economy; Återvinning av resurser; gruvdrift; farligt avfall; hydrometallurgisk utvinning; geofysisk kartläggning; cirkulär ekonomi; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Sammanfattning : Landfills and open dumps have been the most cost-effective waste disposal option, resulting in over 500,000 landfills and dumps in the EU alone. They pose significant environmental and health threats due to emission of toxic gases and release of persistent contaminants to soil and groundwater, triggering a considerable global economic impact annually.
