26. A Waterborne Colloidal Model System Consisting of Fluorinated Spheres Bearing Grafted PEG: Synthesis, Characterization and Properties
Sammanfattning : Model systems have expanded our knowledge of numerous phenomena in Colloid Science, such as the appearance of glasses, order-disorder transitions involving crystals and attraction induced formation of gels. So far, the existing colloidal model systems have been limited mainly to nonaqueous media. LÄS MER
27. Biomarkers for colon cancer : applications in human and rat studies
Sammanfattning : Colon cancer is one of the major causes of cancer in industrialized countries, and it is caused by a combination of hereditary, environmental and dietary factors and lack of physical activity. Of these factors, diet is one of the most important. LÄS MER

29. Preparation and performance of energy storage materials and application for recovery of industrial waste heat
Sammanfattning : Due to the rapid increase of energy consumption and the environmental concerns on climate change caused by the fossil fuel combustion, it becomes a big issue on how to use alternative renewable energy resources to replace fossil fuel and to improve energy utilization efficiency. In Sweden, there are plenty of detached buildings without connection with district heating (DH) network, which use oil to supply the hot water for space heating and tap water. LÄS MER
30. Synthesis of a key derivative of glycosylphosphatidylinositol substances and synthesis of spacer glycosides for use in the formation of glycoconjugates and of self-assembled monolayer surfaces
Sammanfattning : The first chapter of this thesis describes glycosylation strategies for obtaining derivatives of 2-amino-2-deoxy-a-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->6)-D-myo-inositol, a key building block for synthesis of glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor substances and also proposed to be part of a second messenger for insulin. The second chapter describes the synthesis of bifunctional oligoethylene glycol spacers and glycosylation of these for use in formation of glycoconjugates.
