  2. 2. Speciation and Metabolic rate : Insights from an avian hybrid zone

    Författare :S. Eryn McFarlane; Anna Qvarnström; Jenny Boughman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; resting metabolic rate; life history; hybridization; speciation; reproductive isolation; Ficedula flycatcher; Biologi med inriktning mot zooekologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : The role of divergent climate adaptation in speciation has received surprisingly little scientific attention. My dissertation research focused on how resting metabolic rate (RMR) relates to the build up of prezygotic and postzygotic isolation in a natural Ficedula flycatcher hybrid zone. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Dynamics and Performance of a Linear Genetic Programming System

    Författare :Frank D. Francone; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mutation; Genetic Programming; Homologous Crossover.; Crossover; Introns; Linear Genetic Programming; Code Bloat;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic Programming (“GP”) is a machine learning algorithm. Typically, Genetic Programming is a supervised learning algorithm, which trains on labeled training examplesprovided by the user. The solution output by GP maps known attributes to the known labels. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Genetic Disequilibria and the Interpretation of Population Genetic Structure in Daphnia

    Författare :Lars M. Berg; Xavier Vekemans; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; breeding system; linkage disequilibrium; dispersal; genetic structure; Daphnia pulex; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; naturvårdsbiologi; Conservation Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding the processes that shape the spatial distribution of genetic variation within species is central to the evolutionary study of diversification and demography. Neutral genetic variation reflects past demographic events as well as current demographic characteristics of populations, and the correct interpretation of genetic data requires that the relative impact of these forces can be identified. 5. 5. Breeding System Evolution and Pollination Success in the Wind-Pollinated Herb Plantago maritima

    Författare :Emil Nilsson; Jon Ågren; Pia Mutikainen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Breeding system; mating system; gynodioecy; male sterility; reproductive output; self-compatibility; self-incompatibility; wind-pollination; founder event; genetic structure; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I examined variation in sex expression and mating patterns in the sexually polymorphic, wind-pollinated herb Plantago maritima. With a combination of field studies, greenhouse experiments, and genetic analyses, I (a) examined factors influencing sex ratio variation in gynodioecious plants (in which hermaphrodites and females coexist), (b) discovered variation in breeding system, (c) investigated density-dependence of seed production, and (d) documented genetic variation within and among populations close to the northern range margin in Europe.
