1. The acute osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture. Its natural course and characteristics
Sammanfattning : Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the natural course and the characteristics of the acute osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture in order to better understand and improve treatment for this type of fracture. Patients and methods: Eligible patients were all patients over 40 years of age who sought medical care at the emergency unit at Sahlgrenska University Hospital (studies I-III) or referred to the X-ray Department at Capio Diagnostic Center (study IV) because of back pain with a radiographically-confirmed acute vertebral body fracture which resulted from a low energy trauma. 2. Distal femur fracture in the elderly patient
Sammanfattning : Studies on the epidemiology of distal femur fractures show a vast increase in low-energy trauma-associated fractures in older ages. Age-related changes in bones lead to loss of bone matrix and increased porosity, which entails an increased risk for fractures and different fracture patterns than in younger individuals. LÄS MER
3. Fall-Related Hip Fracture : Predisposing and Precipitating Factors
Sammanfattning : A physically inactive lifestyle is a predisposing risk factor for fall-related hip fracture. The circumstances, or precipitating factors, surrounding hip fractures are, however, not well understood, a factor of relevance for Swedish adults who have one of the highest hip fracture risks in the world. 4. Rheocasting of aluminium alloys : Process and components characteristics
Sammanfattning : Semi-Solid Metal (SSM) casting is a promising technology offering an opportunity to manufacture net-shape, complex geometry metal components in a single operation. However, the absence of foundry guidelines and limited design data for SSM casting makes it challenging to predict the performance of both process and components. LÄS MER
5. Defects and Surfaces and their Impact on Fatigue Behaviour of Powder Bed Fused Ti-6Al-4V : Characteristics and Modelling
Sammanfattning : Additive manufacturing (AM), of metals is gaining popularity as an alternative to conventional manufacturing techniques such as casting and forging. Metal-AM allows for the production of complex part geometries with reduced material waste and shorter lead times. LÄS MER
