11. Molecular and cellular analysis of Lhx2 function in hematopoietic stem cells
Sammanfattning : The formation of blood, hematopoiesis, is a dynamic process originating from a small number of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). To sustain hematopoiesis throughout life HSCs have the unique capacity to differentiate into all mature hematopoietic lineages as well as generating more HSCs by a mechanism referred to as self-renewal. 12. Methylome and Transcriptome Profiling of Hepatocytes Derived from Human Pluripotent Stem Cells
Sammanfattning : Six hundred million people suffering from liver diseases worldwide of which the lethality is two million. Freshly isolated hepatocytes from the liver have been used for transplantation purposes and are extensively used to recapitulate drug metabolism. LÄS MER
13. Role of MAIT cells in human antimicrobial immunity
Sammanfattning : Mucosa-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells are a relatively recently discovered subset of unconventional T cells. In humans, MAIT cells are predominantly CD8+CD4- (CD8+) with a smaller CD8-CD4- (double-negative, DN) subset, and they are abundant in the peripheral blood, liver, and mucosal tissues. LÄS MER
14. Modelling and genetic correction of liver genetic diseases
Sammanfattning : The urea cycle is a set of biochemical reactions that converts highly toxic ammonia into urea for excretion. Deficiencies in any of the genes of the cycle can be life-threatening, with liver transplantation currently being the only definitive treatment. LÄS MER
15. The ontogeny and regulation of human natural killer cells
Sammanfattning : Natural Killer (NK) cells are members of the innate lymphoid cell (ILC) family and take part in the detection and eradication of virus-infected and transformed cells. In this thesis, together with my colleagues I have investigated how NK cells and other ILCs develop and function during human fetal development, how NK cells are functionally regulated (educated) via the activating receptor KIR2DS1, and how NK cells in our body are affected during the early phase of an acute viral infection.
