  1. 26. Holocene environmental changes and climate variability in the Eastern Mediterranean : Multiproxy sediment records from the Peloponnese peninsula, SW Greece

    Författare :Christos Katrantsiotis; Stefan Wastegård; Rienk Smittenberg; Jan Risberg; Elin Norström; Sherilyn Fritz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mediterranean; Greece; Peloponnese; Holocene; sediments; diatoms; n-alkanes; stable isotopes; tectonics; climate variability; monsoons; NAO; NCP; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents multiproxy reconstructions of the mid to late Holocene climate and environmental changes in the Peloponnese peninsula, SW Greece. The combined dataset consists of diatom, biomarker and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) elemental data in radiocarbon-dated sediment cores taken from the Agios Floros fen and the Gialova Lagoon in SW Peloponnese and the Ancient Lake Lerna in NE Peloponnese. 2. 27. Modelling ice surface elevation changes in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica : Bridging the gap between in-situ and numerical model reconstructions

    Författare :Martim Mas e Braga; Arjen P. Stroeven; Irina Rogozhina; Jonathan M. Harbor; Clas Hättestrand; Frank Pattyn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice sheet modelling; glaciology; paleoglaciology; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Ice sheets are an active component of Earth's climate system. Their topography influences atmospheric circulation and changes in their volume alters freshwater fluxes to the oceans, affecting ocean water masses, atmospheric carbon uptake, and global sea level. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Past environment and sediment dynamics in the Black Sea-Caspian Sea region from Southern Russian loess sequences

    Författare :Chiara Amalia Költringer; Thomas Stevens; Bjarne Almqvist; Ian Snowball; Kathryn Fitzsimmons; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Loess deposits are excellent past climate and environment archives and contain records of aeolian mineral dust accumulation. Loess deposits stretch across Eurasia and sequences along the Lower Volga in the Northern Caspian lowland in the South East European Plain represent a key link between European and Asian loess. 4. 29. Vegetation history, human impact and palaeogeography of West Estonia : Pollen analytical studies of lake and bog sediments

    Författare :Siim Veski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Vegetation history; human impact; palaeogeography; shoreline displacement; The Baltic Sea; the Yoldia Sea; the Ancylus Lake; the Litorina Sea; pollen analysis; macro fossil analysis; bog and lake sediments; radiocarbon dating; Holocene; Estonia; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth Sciences with Specialization Environmental Analysis; geovetenskap med inriktning mot miljöanalys;

    Sammanfattning : The history of Holocene vegetation in western Estonia and the West Estonian Archipelago is described. Early Holocene sea level changes in the area are reconstructed, and human impact on the vegetation during the Late Holocene is discussed West Estonia was divided into five study areas (Rummu-Maardu, Mustjärve, Velise-Kiilaspere, Tôstamaa Peninsula, and northern Saaremaa in the West Estonian Archipelago, from north to south). 5. 30. Retreat pattern and dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets: reconstructions based on meltwater features

    Författare :Martin Margold; Krister Jansson; Arjen Stroeven; Johan Kleman; Karin Helmens; Chris Stokes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Palaeoglaciology; Cordilleran Ice Sheet; deglaciation; glacial meltwater features; glacial lake; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Glaciers and ice sheets covered extensive areas in the Northern Hemisphere during the last glacial period. Subsequently to the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), they retreated rapidly and, except for Greenland and some other ice caps and glaciers, they vanished after the last glacial termination. LÄS MER
