6. Stochastic analysis of fluid flow and tracer pathways in crystalline fracture networks
Sammanfattning : Understanding groundwater flow systems and how these control transport is an essential part in assessing the suitability of subsurface environments as hosts for storage of toxic waste. Therefore it is important to be able to integrate knowledge obtained from field characterisation of the subsurface with methods which can be used to evaluate and predict possible impact on surrounding environments. 7. Bonded Particle Model for Jointed Rock Mass
Sammanfattning : Jointed rock masses are formed of intact rock and joints. There-fore, proper characterization of rock mass behavior has to consid-er the combined behavior of the intact rock blocks and that of the joints. This thesis presents the theoretical background of the Synthetic Rock Mass (SRM) modeling technique along with example applica-tions. LÄS MER
8. Scale and Stress Effects on Hydro-Mechanical Properties of Fractured Rock Masses
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the effects of size and stress on permeability, deformability and strength of fractured rock masses are investigated. A comparison study was carried out to examine the effects of considering, or not considering, the correlation between distributions of fracture apertures and fracture trace lengths on the hydro-mechanical behavior of fractured rocks. 9. Stress Effects on Solute Transport in Fractured rocks
Sammanfattning : The effect of in-situ or redistributed stress on solute transport in fractured rocks is one of the major concerns for many subsurface engineering problems. However, it remains poorly understood due to the difficulties in experiments and numerical modeling. LÄS MER
10. Analytic Element Models for Groundwater Flow and Linear Elasticity in Fractured Rocks
Sammanfattning : There is an increasing demand for using deep underground space at various scales, such as small-scale geothermal wells and large-scale projects like tunnels or nuclear waste disposal. The deep underground space in fractured rock is a heterogeneous and challenging medium. LÄS MER
