  1. 1. Numerical modeling of groundwater and air flow between compacted bentonite and fractured crystalline rock

    Författare :Benoît Dessirier; Jerker Jarsjö; Andrew Frampton; Stefan Finsterle; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Two-phase flow; porous media; fractured media; compacted bentonite; crystalline rock; numerical modeling; geological disposal; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The geological repository for final storage of spent nuclear fuel, envisioned by the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Management Company (SKB), relies on several barriers: copper canisters deposited in holes in the floor of underground tunnels in deep bedrock, embedded in a buffer of compacted bentonite. The initially unsaturated buffer would take up water from the surrounding rock mass and swell to seal any potential gap. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Upscaling of Flow, Transport, and Stress-effects in Fractured Rock

    Författare :Johan Öhman; Auli Niemi; Ove Stephansson; Robert W Zimmerman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrology; Upscaling; fractured media; flow; solute transport; thermo-hydro-mechanical processes; hybrid approach; continuum approximation; discrete fracture network; stochastic continuum; Hydrologi; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : One of many applications of geohydraulic modelling is assessing the suitability of a site to host a nuclear waste repository. This modelling task is complicated by scale-dependent heterogeneity and coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) processes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Characterization of Hydrogeological Media Using Electromagnetic Geophysics

    Författare :Niklas Linde; Laust B. Pedersen; Max A. Meju; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; Hydrogeophysics; radio magnetotellurics; ground penetrating radar; electrical resistance tomography; inversion; regularization; geostatistics; electrical anisotropy; fractured rock; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Radio magnetotellurics (RMT), crosshole ground penetrating radar (GPR), and crosshole electrical resistance tomography (ERT) were applied in a range of hydrogeological applications where geophysical data could improve hydrogeological characterization. A profile of RMT data collected over highly resistive granite was used to map subhorizontal fracture zones below 300m depth, as well as a steeply dipping fracture zone, which was also observed on a coinciding seismic reflection profile. 4. 4. Solute transport through fractured rocks : the influence of geological heterogeneities and stagnant water zones

    Författare :Batoul Mahmoudzadeh; Longcheng Liu; Ivars Neretnieks; David Hodgkinson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : To describe reactive solute transport and retardation through fractured rocks, three models are developed in the study with different focuses on the physical processes involved and different simplifications of the basic building block of the heterogeneous rock domain. The first model evaluates the effects of the heterogeneity of the rock matrix and the stagnant water zones in part of the fracture plane. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Multi-scale modeling and finite element simulation of diffusion in porous media

    Författare :Nele Pollmann; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydro-Mechanical Coupling; Fractured Rock; Poroelasticity; Three-Phase Concrete; Computational Homogenization;

    Sammanfattning : Porous media comprise a large range of natural and industrial materials and are typically complex on multiple length scales. At lower (micro-scopic) length scales, such media consist of a solid skeleton and fluid-filled pores in between. LÄS MER
