  1. 11. Aspects of regular long-term endurance exercise in adolescents, with focus on cardiac size and function, hormones, and the immune system

    Författare :Louise Rundqvist; Maria Faresjö; Peter Blomstrand; Katarina Steding-Ehrenborg; Jönköping University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adolescence; endurance-trained; cardiac dimension; cardiac systolic function; cardiac diastolic function; growth hormone; immune response; echocardiography; biomarkers; cytokines; chemokines; insulin-like growth factor 1; type 1 diabetes-related autoantigen; proinsulin;

    Sammanfattning : The long-term effects of starting high-intensity training at younger ages are largely unknown. The present studies focused on adolescents who had performed regular endurance exercise for several years at an elite level and compared those subjects with a control group of adolescents of similar age and sex who had not engaged in regular exercise. 2. 12. Myocardial electromechanical function in long QT syndrome

    Författare :Dafni Charisopoulou; Michael Y. Henein; Annika Rydberg; Anders Jonzon; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long QT syndrome; stress-echocardiography; left ventricular filling; mechanical dispersion; diastolic myocardial function; exercise; arrhythmia; electromechanical window; speckle-tracking echocardiography; myocardial relaxation sequence.; kardiologi; Cardiology; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning;

    Sammanfattning : AIM: The aim of this thesis is to assess, in LQTS and according to genotype, the myocardial electromechanical (EM) function response to exercise, its relation to symptoms and its response to b-blocker therapy. To achieve this aim, we conducted 4 studies with the following specific objectives: i. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Stroke and depression in very old age

    Författare :Carl Hörnsten; Yngve Gustafson; Hugo Lövheim; Bo Norrving; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; stroke; depression; very old; oldest old; epidemiology; mortality; risk factors; systolic blood pressure; diastolic blood pressure; atrial fibrillation; geriatric depression scale; geriatrik; Geriatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Background The prevalence and incidence of stroke are known to increase with age, which, combined with demographic change, means that very old patients with stroke are a growing patient group. Risk factors for incident stroke among very old people have not been widely investigated. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Disturbances in myocardial diastolic and vascular function with the emphasis on type 2 diabetes : diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities

    Författare :Christina Jarnert; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Cardiovascular involvement is common in diabetes and diastolic myocardial and endothelial dysfunction are early signs. The prognosis is serious and tools for early detection and a search for improved management strategies are important. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Aspects on gender, quality of life and diastolic function in patients with cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes

    Författare :Laura Venskutonyte; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: A majority of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) suffer and die from a cardiovascular disease (CVD). Because of the increasing prevalence of diabetes, it today rivals smoking, hypertension and hypercholesterolemia as a major risk factor for CVD resulting in a need for more attention and further investigations.
