  1. 16. An experimental study of mediators in allergic bronchoconstriction with focus on eicosanoids

    Författare :Ewa Selg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Leukotrienes; prostaglandins; histamine; guinea pig lung; ovalbumin; mast cell; cyclooxygenase; airway smooth muscle; COX inhibitors; NSAIDs;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells have a central role in the inflammatory response in airways of both atopic and non-atopic asthmatics. The mast cell-derived mediators such as histamine, leukotriene C4 and prostaglandin D2, released upon activation of the cell, produce acute bronchoconstriction that is characteristic of the early asthmatic response (EAR), and contribute to the development of airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness following the initial reaction. 2. 17. Prostaglandin modulation of airway hyperresponsiveness and inflammation in murine models of asthma

    Författare :Linda Swedin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Allergic asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways and is characterised by chronic inflammation, reversible bronchoconstriction and airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR). The cyclooxygenases (COXs) are key enzymes in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins, which have diverse physiological and pathological functions, and are also important modulators of inflammatory responses in the lung. 3. 18. Mechanisms Behind Illness-Induced Anorexia

    Författare :Anna Nilsson; David Engblom; Anders Blomqvist; Robert Fredriksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Loss of appetite is together with fever and malaise hallmarks of infection. Loosing appetite during an acute infection such as influenza does not result in any longlasting effects, but loosing appetite during chronic diseases such as cancer or AIDS constitutes a risk factor for mortality. 4. 19. Mast cell activation in response to osmotic and immunological stimulation with focus on release of eicosanoid mediators

    Författare :Magdalena Gulliksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction; cyclooxygenase; cord blood derived mast cells; mannitol; prostaglandin D2; leukotriene C4; leukotriene E4; histamine and 15-lipoxygenase.;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells are important in asthma and other inflammatory diseases. Subjects with asthma have been found to have an increased number of mast cells in their airway smooth muscle and this was related to airway sensitivity. LÄS MER

  5. 20. mPGES-1 : a key regulator of fever and neonatal respiratory depression

    Författare :Sipra Saha; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Prostaglandins are potent lipid mediators, synthesized de novo from arachidonic acid (AA) upon cell activation. AA is oxidized by the cyclooxygenase isoenzymes (COX-1 and COX-2) to form PGH2, the common substrate for downstream enzymes involved in prostaglandin biosynthesis. LÄS MER
