26. Multimodal imaging : functional, structural, and molecular brain correlates of cognitive aging
Sammanfattning : Aging is associated with a decline in many (but not all) cognitive abilities. Although it remains largely unknown how changes in brain integrity relate to cognitive deficits, these changes are likely expressed across interrelated functional, structural, and molecular layers. 27. Airborne cognitive systems in search of an appropriate context: Studies of the introduction of new technology in aviation using a cognitive systems engineering approach
Sammanfattning : Abstract Technology is always designed for an assumed user in an assumed context. In commercial aviation, these design assumptions are clearly spelt out in that both crew and equipment are certificated for a specific operation as stated in the aircraft flight manual. LÄS MER
28. Amyloid imaging in Alzheimer’s disease and mild cognitive impairment by positron emission tomography
Sammanfattning : Effectiveness of future treatment strategies in Alzheimer s disease (AD) will rely on early detection of disease and the possibility to clearly evaluate their effects. The findings presented in this thesis concerns both early in vivo detection of amyloid deposition in the brains of patients at risk of developing AD and the longitudinal changes of pathological and functional parameters in patients with AD. 29. Cardiovascular risk factors, brain structure, and cognitive decline in old age : a population-based study
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis investigated the burden of cardiovascular risk factors among older adults (age ≥60 years) living in central Stockholm (Study I) and the associations of these risk factors with structural brain characteristics and cognitive decline in aging, taking genetic background (APOE gene) into account (Studies II, III, and IV). All studies in this thesis use data from the Swedish National study on Aging and Care in Kungsholmen (SNAC-K) and the embedded SNAC-K Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) study. LÄS MER
30. Pathophysiological Mechanisms and Diagnostic Markers in Alzheimer’s Disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the most common cause of dementia, is a growing concern. As the life expectancy increases across the globe, the number of affected people is estimated to reach 100 million by 2050. LÄS MER
