1. Volumetric combustion of torrefied biomass for large percentage biomass co-firing up to 100% fuel switch
Sammanfattning : The co-firing of biomass and coal plays an important role in increasing the biomass power capacity and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The challenges of the large percentage biomass co-firing (over 20% on energy basis) in existing pulverized coal boilers are keeping the same steam parameters and having a high boiler efficiency and a stable operating. 2. Co-firing complex biomass in a CFB boiler : ash transformation, corrosion control and materials selection
Sammanfattning : The effects of greenhouse gas net emissions on global warming, stricter legislation on waste handling, and the pursuit of ever cheaper heat- and power production are all important factors driving the introduction of complex fuels in incineration plants. However - without fundamental knowledge regarding ash transformation, corrosion control, and materials selection – this introduction of potentially economically and environmentally beneficial fuels, might instead cause economic loss and environmentally adverse effects. 3. Radiative Heat Transfer in Suspension-Fired Systems
Sammanfattning : Radiation is the dominating heat transfer mechanism in most furnaces, and the radiative properties of combustion products represent important aspects regarding its suitability as a heat source. However, fuel and energy markets are undergoing rapid changes due to increasing concerns related to the security of supply and increased global warming. LÄS MER
4. Experimental and numerical studies of thermal radiation in gas, coal and co-fired pilot test facilities
Sammanfattning : Throughout the industrialized era, fossil fuels have been used extensively in combustion processes to generate heat and electricity. However, the combustion of such fuels creates emissions of greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide, and other hazardous products. LÄS MER
5. Perspectives on future bioenergy use and trade in a European policy context
Sammanfattning : This thesis, which consists of five separate papers, analyses the possibilities for increasing the use and trade of bioenergy, in a European policy context. In Paper I we investigate whether different policy objectives underlying the promotion of bioenergy (cost-effective climate change mitigation, reduced dependency on imported fuels, and job creation) agree on which bioenergy options should be used.
