26. Solids flows in circulating fluidized beds: explorations of phenomena with applications to boilers
Sammanfattning : The circulating fluidized bed (CFB), which is a technology that is commonly used in the heat and power sector, efficiently converts renewable and/or and low-grade solid fuels, such as biomass and biogenic waste fractions. CFB units serve also as a technological platform for carbon capture processes (combustion by oxy-firing or chemical looping), which are foreseen to play a key role in the transition of the energy system towards decreased atmospheric CO2 emissions. 27. Source apportionment of carbonaceous aerosol - Measurement and model evaluation
Sammanfattning : Aerosol particles are found in the whole troposphere. Research regarding these particles has gained increased attention because of the effect the particles have on both health and climate. In the atmosphere, aerosol particles scatter incoming solar radiation and this has a cooling effect on the Earth’s climate. LÄS MER
28. Household food waste management – Evaluations of current status and potential improvements using life-cycle assessment methodology
Sammanfattning : An increased understanding of the world’s limited resources and the negative environmental impacts connected to solid waste management has in recent years increased interest in separate collection and treatment of organic waste in many parts of the world. As an example, increased biological treatment of organic waste is an explicit goal within the Swedish national solid waste management strategy (SEPA, 2006) and the national environmental objectives state that 35% of all organic household waste should be treated biologically by 2010 (SEPA, 2007). 29. Detecting changes in climate and atmospheric composition with tracers in Arctic ice caps
Sammanfattning : Changes in climate and atmospheric composition over decades to a hundred thousand years have been studied by extracting records of various tracers from two Arctic ice cores. A seven metre long ice core of superimposed ice was recovered from the Storöya ice cap in north-eastern Svalbard. LÄS MER
30. Land-atmosphere interaction of a subarctic palsa mire
Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis was to quantitatively estimate the gaseous exchange of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) between a subarctic wetland ecosystem and the atmosphere. Additionally some initial estimates of the carbon input to the atmosphere of nonmethane hydrocarbons (NMHCs) were also obtained by combining different techniques in a joint setting. LÄS MER
