31. Marine biogenic polysaccharides as a potential source of aerosol in the high Arctic : Towards a link between marine biology and cloud formation
Sammanfattning : Primary marine aerosol particles containing biogenic polymer microgels play a potential role for cloud formation in the pristine high Arctic summer. One of the major sources of the polymer gels in Arctic aerosol was suggested to be the surface water and more specifically, the surface microlayer (SML) of the open leads within the perennial sea ice as a result of bubble bursting at the air-sea interface. 32. Physicochemical properties and atmospheric ageing of soot - investigated though aerosol mass spectrometry
Sammanfattning : Aerosol particles contribute significantly to the global burden of disease, and remain the main source of uncertainty in assessments of human-induced climate change. The microphysical characterization of particles is necessary to understand the roles they play in the detrimental effects of air pollution on human health, and in the energy budget of our planet. 33. Exploring the Universe Using Neutrinos : A Search for Point Sources in the Southern Hemisphere Using the IceCube Neutrino Observatory
Sammanfattning : Neutrinos are the ideal cosmic messengers, and can be used to explore the most powerful accelerators in the Universe, in particular the mechanisms for producing and accelerating cosmic rays to incredible energies. By studying clustering of neutrino candidate events in the IceCube detector we can discover sites of hadronic acceleration. LÄS MER
34. Spectral Control of Functional Fiber Sources
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on five projects aimed at spectral control of fiber-based laser architectures. Two of these concern electrically wavelength-tunable laser sources, namely a fiber amplifier system for CO2-monitoring and a novel tunable laser design for flexible pulsed operation. LÄS MER
35. Isotope-based constraints on sources and processing of black carbon, carbon monoxide, and brown carbon in South Asia
Sammanfattning : The highly populated South Asian region is facing rapid economic growth and urbanization. Here, both climate- and health-affecting atmospheric agents such as light-absorbing aerosols black carbon (BC) and brown carbon (BrC), trace gas carbon monoxide (CO), are often found in relatively high levels compared to in other regions.
