1. Potential Use of Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage System in Arid Regions
Sammanfattning : After the Oil Crises in 1973, which meant higher energy costs, the world started to look for other sources of energy. This led to the development of renewable energy techniques. Because of the intermittent nature of renewable energy, storage systems were also developed. LÄS MER
2. Seawater intrusion risks and controls for safe use of coastal groundwater under multiple change pressures
Sammanfattning : In the era of intense pressures on water resources, the loss of groundwater by increased seawater intrusion (SWI), driven by climate, sea level and landscape changes, may be critical for many people living in commonly populous coastal regions. Analytical solutions have been derived here for interface flow in coastal aquifers, which allow for simple quantification of SWI under extended conditions from previously available such solutions and are suitable for first-order regional vulnerability assessment and mapping of the implications of climate- and landscape-driven change scenarios and related comparisons across various coastal world regions. 3. Groundwater resources in hard rock coastal terrains : Insights into heterogeneity and spatial variability
Sammanfattning : Challenges regarding water security in hard rock coastal regions with limited soil cover are: a seasonal absence of recharge during times of peak residency, heterogeneity and variability of the fracture network, close proximity to saline water sources and spatially inconsistent storage and extraction. In areas where it is not feasible to connect residents to municipal water systems, a better understanding of the resilience of reservoirs is needed. LÄS MER
4. Hydrographic and morphologic processes at Falsterbo peninsula - Present conditions and future scenarios
Sammanfattning : Falsterbo Peninsula in the south-west corner of Sweden is low-lying and built up of unconsolidated sand. Vulnerability to high water levels and wave action is of concern for the 10,000 residents of the peninsula, especially in consideration of global warming as enhanced inundation and coastal erosion problems may ensue. 5. Strategic groundwater protection
Sammanfattning : Groundwater is an undervalued natural resource that isexperiencing a large number of threats to both its quantity andquality. Different types of land-use activities releasepotentially harmful substances that may be transported down tothe groundwater and have a negative impact on its quality. LÄS MER
