  1. 16. The bicuspid aortic valve : studies on valve morphology and pathology in relation to ascending aortic dilatation and coronary artery disease

    Författare :Veronica Jackson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is 1-2% and is thereby the most common cardiac malformation. BAV is highly associated with valvular dysfunction and aortic conditions such as ascending aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection. Of BAV individuals, 25-50% will develop indications for surgical intervention. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Signs of inflammation in different types of heart valve disease : The VOCIN study

    Författare :Lars Wallby; Lena Jonasson; Mats Broqvist; Mårten Rosenqvist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heart valve dysfunction; heart valve disease; VOCIN study group; aortic valves; Gross valvular pathology; Cariology; Cariologi;

    Sammanfattning : Heart valve dysfunction is a relatively common condition in the population, whereas significant heart valve disease is more unusual. The cause of different types of heart valve disease depends on which valve is concerned. Rheumatic heart valve disease, has for a long time been considered to constitute a post-inflammatory condition. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Implications of myocardial dysfunction before and after aortic valve intervention

    Författare :Henrik Hultkvist; Farkas Vánky; Rolf Svedjeholm; Jonas Holm; Odd Bech-Hanssen; Linköpings universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUNDPostoperative heart failure in the setting of aortic valve surgery results in poor long-term survival. We hypothesized that there could be a myocardial factor that is not addressed by risk scores currently available. We speculated that this myocardial factor could be diastolic dysfunction. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Noninvasive haemodynamic evaluation of aortic valve prostheses : Doppler echocardiographic studies at rest and during exercise

    Författare :Maria J Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :heart valve prosthesis; aortic valve replacement; Doppler echocardiography; exercise; haemodynamics; valve resistance;

    Sammanfattning : The present series of investigations was designed to supply information on in vivo pressure-flow relationships and to analyse the incidence of regurgitation in different heart valve prostheses in the aortic position. Patients and methods: The study population comprised 185 patients with mechanical Björk-Shiley Monostrut prostheses, 54 patients with Biocor stented porcine bioprostheses, 50 patients with extended Biocor stentless bioprostheses and 59 patients with cryopreserved aortic homografts. 5. 20. Left ventricular remodeling and function in ischemic heart disease and aortic valve disease

    Författare :Jonas Jenner; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiac remodeling is a broad term that refers to structural and functional alterations of the heart in response to chronic changes in loading conditions or left ventricular (LV) contractile performance. Different loading conditions will affect the heart in different ways, some leading to impaired heart function, symptoms of heart failure, or even death. LÄS MER
