  1. 1. The Role of Mitochondrial Uncoupling in the Development of Diabetic Nephropathy

    Författare :Malou Friederich Persson; Fredrik Palm; Richard K. Porter; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kidney; mitochondria; Uncoupling Protein-2; Adenosine Nucleotide Transporter; uncoupling; diabetes; diabetic nephropathy; db db; dinitrophenol; Coenzyme Q10; oxygen; rats; mice; Physiology; Fysiologi; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes is closely associated with increased oxidative stress, especially originating from the mitochondria. A mechanism to reduce increased mitochondria superoxide production is to reduce the mitochondria membrane potential by releasing protons across the mitochondria membrane. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Oxygen Metabolism in Experimental Kidney Disease

    Författare :Ebba Sivertsson; Fredrik Palm; Peter Hansell; Jenny Nyström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kidney; kidney oxygenation; mitochondria; proteinuria; uncoupling protein; adenosine nucleotide transporter; diabetes; hyperthyroidism; thyroid hormone; hypertension; angiotensin II; CDK; AST-120; rats; mice; Fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Tubulointerstitial hypoxia has been proposed a unifying mechanism behind the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD), regardless of primary diagnosis. Important factors that contribute to the development of hypoxia are reduced bioavailability of nitric oxide (NO), oxidative stress and mitochondria uncoupling. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regulation of Human Papillomavirus Type 16 Early and Late Gene Expression

    Författare :Haoran Yu; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HPV16; mRNA; Splicing; gene expression;

    Sammanfattning : Human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16) is a cancer-causing virus that contributes to at least 70% of cervical cancer as well as to other anogenital cancers and head and neck cancer. Understanding HPV16 gene regulation is important to enhance our understanding of HPV16 infections and may contribute to development of antiviral drugs. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pharmacological and molecular investigations on the mechanisms underlying resistance of human leukaemia cells to the antimetabolites methotrexate, 6-mercaptopurine and 6-thioguanine

    Författare :Alan Kambiz Fotoohi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The goal of this thesis has been to elucidate the mechanisms underlying resistance to methotrexate (MTX), 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) and 6-thioguanine (6-TG), the antimetabolites widely used in treatment of childhood leukemia, as well as to determine the influence of 7-hydroxymethotrexate (7-OHMTX), the major metabolite of MTX, on the therapeutic action of MTX. Resistant sublines of leukemic cell lines were developed by long-term exposure to stepwise increasing concentrations of these different agents. LÄS MER
