6. Quantum Hall Skyrmions and Edge Spin Textures
Sammanfattning : In the quantum Hall effect, new and surprising phenomena continue to be uncovered. For example, in quantum Hall ferromagnets Skyrmions have been observed---these quasiparticles carry electric charge and a large spin. The spin is ordered in a beautiful wavelike pattern, as shown on the front of this thesis. LÄS MER
7. Electron Transport in Quantum Dots Defined in Low-Dimensional Semiconductor Structures
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on electron transport in single and double quantum dots defined in low-dimensional, narrow-band-gap III-V semiconductor materials. Fabrication schemes are presented for defining single and double quantum dots in lateral InGaAs/InP heterostructures, either by a combination of etching and local gating or solely by local top gating. 8. Quantum Transport in Heterostructure Nanowire Devices
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates electronic transport in several types of novel heterostructure nanowires. The first part of the thesis focuses on band-to-band mechanisms in heterostructure nanowires for low-power electronics. First, tunnel field-effect transistors (TFETs) based on InP/GaAs heterostructure nanowires with n-i-p doping profile are explored. LÄS MER
9. Quantum transport and spin effects in lateral semiconductor nanostructures and graphene
Sammanfattning : This thesis studies electron spin phenomena in lateral semi-conductor quantum dots/anti-dots and electron conductance in graphene nanoribbons by numerical modelling. In paper I we have investigated spin-dependent transport through open quantum dots, i.e., dots strongly coupled to their leads, within the Hubbard model. LÄS MER
10. Novel Phenomena in Superconductors and Superfluids: Boundary States, Spiral Magnetic Fields, and Solitons
Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis presents a comprehensive study of superconducting and superfluid states in a variety of physical systems. The research is based on 12 papers that explore different phenomena in-depth.One of the significant contributions of the thesis is the discovery of boundary states in superconductors.
