  1. 11. Mitigation of urban storm water runoff through application of computational fluid dynamics

    Författare :Kaj Pettersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microstructure; infiltration; Green roof; CFD; wind-driven rain; building facade.; lattice Boltzmann;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis covers computational methods for improving the ability of green roofs to mitigate storm water runoff in urban environments. Roofs with living vegetation, known as green roofs, have been used for this purpose however quantification of their ability to slow and stop rainfall runoff has not been undertaken to a large degree. 2. 12. Satellie Monitoring of Urban Growth and Indicator-based Assessment of Environmental Impact

    Författare :Dorothy Furberg; Yifang Ban; Margareta Ihse; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Urban growth; remote sensing; landcover classification; landscape metrics; environmental indicators; environmental impact; Greater Toronto Area; Stockholm; Shanghai;

    Sammanfattning : One of the major consequences of urbanization is the transformation of land surfaces from rural/natural environments to built-up land that supports diverse forms of human activity. These transformations impact the local geology, climate, hydrology, flora and fauna and human-life supporting ecosystem services in the region. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Urban Snowmelt Processes: Modelling and Observation

    Författare :Annette Semadeni Davies; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; energy; runoff; snow properties; heterogeneity; hydrological modelling; Urbanisation; snowmelt; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : In northern Scandinavia and other cold regions, urban drainage systems are often unable to cope with the high volumes of melt water which can be sustained for several weeks. High waste water treatment plant inflows, combined system overflows and low water quality are a few problems associated with snowmelt. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Matter that matters : A study of household routines in a process of changing water and sanitation arrangements

    Författare :Helena Krantz; Jan-Olof Drangert; Elin Wihlborg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Urban water and sanitation arrangements; change; routines; everyday life; household management; water use; pocket of local order; matter out of place; comfort; cleanliness; convenience; sustainability; households; Miljöteknik; teknisk hygien; vatten och avlopp; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Sammanfattning : Our society changed, but the urban water and sanitation system of today is roughly the same as it was 100 years ago. The system is designed for, developed from and sustained by human activities, and has since its introduction affected household patterns of routine activities. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Colloidal Organic Pollutants in Road Runoff: Sources, Emissions and Effective Treatment Technologies

    Författare :Anna Markiewicz; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic pollutants; nanoparticles; stormwater; sorption filters; road dust; emulsions; washwater; vehicle wash; road runoff; microparticles; sweepsand; colloids; street sweeping;

    Sammanfattning : Thousands of organic substances circulate in our society and are diffusely emitted through traffic, combustion and leaching from constructions and building materials into the urban environment. The research in this PhD thesis focuses on road runoff as the highest concentrations of pollutants are frequently found in runoff from areas with high traffic intensity. LÄS MER
