  1. 6. Linking distributed hydrological processes with ecosystem vegetation dynamics and carbon cycling: Modelling studies in a subarctic catchment of northern Sweden

    Författare :Jing Tang; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon cycling; Water cycling; Hydrological modelling; Ecosystem modelling; Subarctic ecosystems; Climate change;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic and Subarctic regions are of particular importance to the global climate change and are now experiencing a climate warming that is higher than the global average. Around 50% of the global soil carbon is stored in high latitude soils, especially in permafrost and peatland soils. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Emission of methane from northern lakes and ponds

    Författare :Martin Wik; Patrick Crill; Isabelle Laurion; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lakes; ponds; water bodies; methane; fluxes; ebullition; stable isotopes; arctic; subarctic; carbon cycling; climate change; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Northern lakes and ponds are abundant and emit large amounts of the potent climate forcer methane to the atmosphere at rates prone to change with amplified Arctic warming. In spite of being important, fluxes from surface waters are not well understood. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Carbon gas biogeochemistry of a northern peatland - in a dynamic permafrost landscape

    Författare :Kristina Bäckstrand; Patrick M. Crill; Torben R. Christensen; David Bastviken; Kimberly P. Wickland; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon balance; Carbon exchange; Peatland; Subarctic; Climate change; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about biogeochemical processes of a northern peatland and their importance as a link between the climate and the terrestrial system. Increased temperatures on a global level, and particularly in the Arctic, have led to melting permafrost and changes in hydrology. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Bearing the brunt of warming: Interactions between carbon and hydrology in northern Sweden

    Författare :Pearl MZOBE; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dissoved organic carbon DOC ; carbon flux; permafrost thaw; hydrological connectivity; GIS analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Climate modelling studies indicate that subarctic ecosystems are predicted to show some of the earliest responses to climate change. The predicted temperature and precipitation changes have implications for the carbon biogeochemical cycle with ancillary effects in permafrost soils, vegetation, and stream networks. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Subarctic ecosystem responses to climate, catchment and permafrost dynamics in the Holocene

    Författare :Ulla Kokfelt; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; subarctic Sweden; palsa mire development; peat; permafrost history; carbon and nutrient cycling; lake sediments;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis assesses aspects of the wetland development, permafrost dynamics and associated changes in carbon and nutrient cycling of the Stordalen Mire in northern Sweden. Various ecological and biogeochemical analyses of one peat and two lake sediment sequences were conducted, including analyses of organic matter and carbonate content, mosses, diatoms, testate amoebae, pigments, carbon and nitrogen and their stable isotopes, near infrared spectroscopy and biogenic silica.
