6. Linking distributed hydrological processes with ecosystem vegetation dynamics and carbon cycling: Modelling studies in a subarctic catchment of northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : The Arctic and Subarctic regions are of particular importance to the global climate change and are now experiencing a climate warming that is higher than the global average. Around 50% of the global soil carbon is stored in high latitude soils, especially in permafrost and peatland soils. LÄS MER
7. Emission of methane from northern lakes and ponds
Sammanfattning : Northern lakes and ponds are abundant and emit large amounts of the potent climate forcer methane to the atmosphere at rates prone to change with amplified Arctic warming. In spite of being important, fluxes from surface waters are not well understood. LÄS MER
8. Carbon gas biogeochemistry of a northern peatland - in a dynamic permafrost landscape
Sammanfattning : This thesis is about biogeochemical processes of a northern peatland and their importance as a link between the climate and the terrestrial system. Increased temperatures on a global level, and particularly in the Arctic, have led to melting permafrost and changes in hydrology. LÄS MER
9. Bearing the brunt of warming: Interactions between carbon and hydrology in northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : Climate modelling studies indicate that subarctic ecosystems are predicted to show some of the earliest responses to climate change. The predicted temperature and precipitation changes have implications for the carbon biogeochemical cycle with ancillary effects in permafrost soils, vegetation, and stream networks. LÄS MER
10. Subarctic ecosystem responses to climate, catchment and permafrost dynamics in the Holocene
Sammanfattning : This thesis assesses aspects of the wetland development, permafrost dynamics and associated changes in carbon and nutrient cycling of the Stordalen Mire in northern Sweden. Various ecological and biogeochemical analyses of one peat and two lake sediment sequences were conducted, including analyses of organic matter and carbonate content, mosses, diatoms, testate amoebae, pigments, carbon and nitrogen and their stable isotopes, near infrared spectroscopy and biogenic silica.
