  1. 1. Emission of methane from northern lakes and ponds

    Författare :Martin Wik; Patrick Crill; Isabelle Laurion; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lakes; ponds; water bodies; methane; fluxes; ebullition; stable isotopes; arctic; subarctic; carbon cycling; climate change; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Northern lakes and ponds are abundant and emit large amounts of the potent climate forcer methane to the atmosphere at rates prone to change with amplified Arctic warming. In spite of being important, fluxes from surface waters are not well understood. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Greenhouse gas emission from tropical reservoirs : Spatial and temporal dynamics

    Författare :Annika Linkhorst; Sebastian Sobek; Frédéric Guérin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; methane; carbon dioxide; climate; carbon cycle; lake; limnology; inland water;

    Sammanfattning : The emission of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from reservoirs has been estimated to make up for about 1.3% of the global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emission. The impoundment of a river leads to the accumulation of sediment that is brought in from inflowing rivers, and the sediment organic matter is degraded to CH4 and CO2. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Dispersal and environmental impact of contaminants in organic rich, fibrous sediments of industrial origin in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Anna Apler; Ian Snowball; Karin Wiberg; Kevin Bishop; Sarah Josefsson; Lovisa Zillén; Ida-Maja Hassellöv; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fiberbank; fiber-rich sediments; metals; persistent organic pollutants; pore water; bottom water; dispersal; sorption; pulp and paper; Natural Resources and Sustainable Development; Naturresurser och hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : The health of the Baltic Sea is negatively affected by hazardous substances such as metals and persistent organic pollutants (POPs), which include legacy pollutants that were banned decades ago, but still circulate in the ecosystem. Elevated levels of legacy pollutants, identified by HELCOM as key hazardous substances, have been found in accumulations of fibrous sediments, so-called fiberbanks and fiber-rich sediments, which derive from old pulp mills along the Swedish north coast. 4. 4. Lake Fluxes of Methane and Carbon Dioxide

    Författare :Eva Podgrajsek; Erik Sahlée; Dennis Baldocchi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; air-lake gas exchange; carbon dioxide; eddy covariance; floating chambers; methane; waterside convection; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : Methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) are two important greenhouse gases. Recent studies have shown that lakes, although they cover a small area of the globe, can be very important natural sources of atmospheric CH4 and CO2. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Carbon trace gas dynamics in subarctic lakes

    Författare :Joachim Jansen; Patrick Crill; Andreas Lorke; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lakes; methane; carbon dioxide; fluxes; gas transfer; proxy; climate change; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Northern lakes are important sources of greenhouse gases carbon dioxide and methane to the atmosphere. Emissions are expected to increase as the climate continues to warm. Even so, lake carbon budgets are currently poorly constrained. This is in part because of a limited understanding of the processes that govern the flux. LÄS MER
