  1. 26. Geotechnical Aspects of Buildings on Expansive Soils in Kibaha, Tanzania

    Författare :Charles Lucian; Staffan Hintze; Sven Knutsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Expansive soils; soil properties; potential swell; smectite montmorillonite ; multivariate statistics; geo-statistics; spatial variability; lightweight structures; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Sammanfattning :  The focus of this study is on potential damages to buildings resulting from expansive soils in Tanzania, particularly clay soils in Kibaha. For the fact that most of the affected structures are founded on expansive soils, a clear understanding of the behaviour of soils and their interaction with structures has been of interest to the study in order to evaluate properly the source of the problem. 2. 27. Greenhouse gas emissions from cultivated peat soils in Sweden

    Författare :Örjan Berglund; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Greenhouse gas emissions and peat subsidence are major concerns both from an environmental perspective and for farmers with declining soil production capacity. Agricultural databases, digitised maps of quaternary deposits and 40K radiation have been used in a GIS analysis to estimate the distribution and land use of agricultural organic soils in Sweden. 3. 28. Tillage effects on soil respiration in Swedish arable soils

    Författare :Veera Kainiemi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The amount of carbon (C) present in soil is greater than the sum of C present in terrestrial vegetation and the atmosphere combined. Small changes in soils can therefore affect atmospheric CO₂ levels and ultimately the global climate. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Biogeochemical processes in frozen soils : unfrozen water in frozen soils and factors regulating carbon mineralization at low temperatures

    Författare :Stina Harrysson Drotz; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : High latitude ecosystems are important for global carbon (C) balances and are among the most sensitive ecosystems to climate change. Microbial CO2 production in soil is known to proceed at temperatures < 0ºC in these regions and winter CO2 emissions can significantly affect annual C balances. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Impact of tree species on carbon in forest soils

    Författare :Karna Hansson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Different tree species differ in productivity, litter quality and quantity, canopy structure and nitrogen deposition. Norway spruce (Picea abies), Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and birch (Betula pendula and B. pubescens) are the three dominant tree species in Sweden. LÄS MER
