11. WINDMILL FOUNDATIONS ON WEAK SOILS
Sammanfattning : Much scientific evidence indicates that the Earth's climate is changing and the world has become more concerned about the global climate. This has encouraged many countries to consider future clean power production with wind power taking an increasing part. LÄS MER
12. Land use effects on nitrous oxide emission from drained organic soils
Sammanfattning : Since industrialisation, the atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases (GHG) has increased significantly. The most important anthropogenic GHGs are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O). N2O is of major concern for two reasons; i) it is a potent GHG responsible for 6. LÄS MER
13. Phytophthora and Oak Decline - Impact on Seedlings and Mature Trees in Forest Soils
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigated the occurrence of soilborne species of the plant pathogenic genus Phytophthora in southern Swedish oak forests and their possible involvement in southern Swedish oak decline. The emphasis was on the impact of P. quercina on Quercus robur in acid forest soils. LÄS MER
14. Laboratory Investigations of Frost Action Mechanisms in Soils
Sammanfattning : Phase change of the water in the soil skeleton under cold climate conditions (also known as frost action in soils) affects soil properties and can be responsible for serious alterations in a soil body; causing damages (due to the volumetric expansion known as frost heave) to structures on or below the ground surface such as foundations, roads, railways, retaining walls and pipelines, etc. In order to improve the current design methods for roads against frost action, the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has initiated a research program. 15. Vanadium in soils : chemistry and ecotoxicity
Sammanfattning : Vanadium is a redox-sensitive metal that is released to soils by weathering and anthropogenic emissions. Swedish metallurgical slags are naturally high in vanadium and used as soil amendments and in road materials. However, understanding of vanadium chemistry and bioavailability in soils is limited.
