1. Geometric Models of Similarity
Sammanfattning : This dissertation examines and discusses some phenomena related to the geometric representation of similarity. It takes its inspiration from the existing body of empirical research within the fields of perceptual and cognitive psychology, but also connects to certain areas of machine learning. LÄS MER
2. Deep Perceptual Loss and Similarity
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates deep perceptual loss and (deep perceptual) similarity; methods for computing loss and similarity for images as the distance between the deep features extracted from neural networks. The primary contributions of the thesis consist of (i) aggregating much of the existing research on deep perceptual loss and similarity, and (ii) presenting novel research into understanding and improving the methods. 3. Analysis of VSC-based HVDC systems
Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis is to perform stability and control studies in the area of VSC-HVDC systems. A major part of the investigation focuses on the development of procedures, whose aim is to understand, explain and avoid poorly-damped conditions or instability that may appear due to dc-side resonances, which stem from the interaction of converters and passive elements in such systems. 4. The prospects for the East African Monetary Union : An empirical analysis
Sammanfattning : This thesis operationalizes the theory of optimum currency areas, which describes the preconditions (criteria) that countries must fulfill prior to forming a monetary union. In light of the different dimensions of the theory that are examined, the empirical findings from the four papers in this thesis seem to favor forming a monetary union among East African Community (EAC) partner states. 5. Towards prediction in ungauged aquifers – methods for comparative regional analysis
Sammanfattning : Hydrogeological investigations and in particular groundwater resource assessments are strongly reliant on understanding the factors controlling groundwater level dynamics. However, historical records of measured groundwater levels are often scarce and unevenly distributed in space and time. LÄS MER
