31. Superinductance and fluctuating two-level systems: Loss and noise in disordered and non-disordered superconducting quantum devices
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we first demonstrate that a disordered superconductor with high kinetic inductance can realise a microwave low-loss, non-dissipative circuit element with impedance greater than the quantum resistance. This element, known as a superinductor, can suppress the fluctuations of charge in a quantum circuit. LÄS MER
32. Death and the Self : A Metaphysical Investigation of the Rationality of Afterlife Beliefs in the Contemporary Intellectual Climate
Sammanfattning : This dissertation's purpose is to test the hypothesis that beliefs in the possibility of post-mortem survival can be rationally held within the context of the contemporary scientific and philosophical environment. In terms of criteria of rationality, a basic evidentialism is assumed, such that propositions which are sufficiently supported by the available evidence can be rationally held. LÄS MER
33. Confinement Sensitivity in Quantum Dot Spin Relaxation
Sammanfattning : Quantum dots, also known as artificial atoms, are created by tightly confining electrons, and thereby quantizing their energies. They are important components in the emerging fields of nanotechnology where their potential uses vary from dyes to quantum computing qubits. Interesting properties to investigate are e.g. LÄS MER
34. Effects of Coherence and Correlations on Transport through Nanostructures
Sammanfattning : This dissertation deals with the effects of coherence and correlations on transport through nanostructures. Simulations are mainly performed using the second order von Neumann approach, a method capable of dealing with these effects in the presence of higher order tunneling. LÄS MER
35. Time Correlated Single Photon Spectroscopy on Pyramidal Quantum Dots
Sammanfattning : Generation of non-classical light is both of fundamental interest and a common condition for quantum information applications (QIA). One feasible type of single photon emitter for QIA is based on semiconductor quantum dots (QDs), due to their atomic-like energy structure and their possibility to be integrated with other semiconductor devices on the same chip.
