    Sammanfattning : Despite resembling ‘true’ fungi in terms of morphological features, oomycetes form a distinct eukaryotic lineage of filamentous microorganisms that belongs to the stramenopiles, a group of protists also comprising the closely-related brown algae and diatoms. Many oomycetes are devastating pathogens of plants and animals, globally causing significant economic losses in the agriculture and aquaculture industries, and posing considerable environmental damage to natural ecosystems. 2. 2. Genetic and molecular regulation of epithelial tube morphogenesis

    Författare :Anna Tonning; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :epithelial tube morphogenesis; trachea; Drosophila; chitin; chitin synthase; apical extracellular matrix; paracellular diffusion barrier; tube expansion; septate junctions;

    Sammanfattning : Networks of epithelial tubes, such as the vertebrate lung, kidney and vascular system, enable transport of gases and nutrients to all tissues in the body. These tubes are built up by a single layer of polarized epithelial cells, with the apical membrane facing the lumen. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Functional characterization of cellulose and chitin synthase genes in Oomycetes

    Författare :Johanna Fugelstad; Vincent Bulone; Carol Munro; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cellulose biosynthesis; chitin biosynthesis; cellulose synthase gene; chitin synthase gene; Oomycetes; Phytophthora infestans; Saprolegnia monoica; pleckstrin homology domain; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Some species of Oomycetes are well studied pathogens that cause considerable economical losses in the agriculture and aquaculture industries. Currently, there are no chemicals available that are environmentally friendly and at the same time efficient Oomycete inhibitors. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Cellulose Biosynthesis in Oomycetes

    Författare :Johanna Fugelstad; Vincent Bulone; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cellulose biosynthesis; cellulose synthase genes; Oomycetes; Phytophthora infestans; Saprolegnia monoica.; Other bioengineering; Övrig bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Oomycetes have long been considered as a separate class within the kingdom Fungi, but they are in fact closer to brown algae. They are currently classified in the Stramenopile eukaryotic kingdom, which includes heterokont algae and water molds. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Genetic dissection of tubulogenesis in the Drosophila trachea

    Författare :Johanna Hemphälä; Christos Samakovlis; Reinhard Schuh; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; trachea; transposon mutagenesis screen; fusion; Dpp; Delta; tubular dimensions; Grainyhead; Krotzkopf verkehrt; intralumenal matrix; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The formation of branched tubular organs, such as the mammalian lung kidney and vascular system, is an essential process in animal development. The Drosophila tracheal (respiratory) system provides a genetic model system to study the highly ordered process of branch outgrowth and fusion required to form continuous tubular networks. LÄS MER
