16. Towards Efficient Quantum Memories in Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Solids
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes experiments aimed at developing a key component in applications such as quantum networks and long-distance quantum communication systems: quantum memories. Quantum memories for light using photon-echo and coherent rephrasing techniques have been developed. The work is carried out on rare-earth-ion-doped inorganic crystals. LÄS MER
17. Coherent Processes in Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Solids
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes a number of coherent processes, such as quantum information processing, superradiance and electromagnetically induced transparency, which have been experimentally implemented using rare-earth-ion-doped crystals. The rare-earths are a class of elements that have in common, an atomic structure that allows for very long lifetimes as well as coherence times, both on optical transitions and on spin transitions. 18. Generation and detection of non-classical photon states
Sammanfattning : This thesis intends to familiarize the reader with the concepts of photon statistics and correlations in quantum optics. Developing light sources that emit quantum states is central for the realization of quantum technologies. LÄS MER
19. On Observation of and Interaction in Open Distributed Systems
Sammanfattning : The thesis presents the results of research in computer science, as applied within a series of industrial projects. All of these projects have been part of an iterative and adaptive development process, from which we can draw conclusions in three different aspects. LÄS MER
20. Stark Spectroscopy, Lifetimes and Coherence Effects in Diatomic Molecular Systems
Sammanfattning : In this dissertation is exemplified how different laser based methods are applied in high-resolution spectroscopic studies of internal properties of diatomic molecules.A molecular beam apparatus assembly is described, where a laser ablation source is combined with a time-of-flight mass spectrometer.
