1. The Lagrangian Stochastic Advective-Reactive Approach to Modeling Solute Transport in Hydrological Systems
Sammanfattning : The Lagrangian stochastic advective-reactive modelingapproach has been used for analyzing transport of bothnonreactive and reactive solutes in different hydrologicalsystems (structured soil, groundwater, mining waste rockdeposits and surface waters including single stream and networkof streams) and at different spatio-temporal scales (rangingfrom laboratory column-scale to catchment-scale). Further, afirst step has been taken to extending the Lagrangianstochastic advective-reactive modeling methodology to integratethe soil-groundwater-stream transport through a catchment. LÄS MER
2. Spatial and temporal dynamics of nutrients in two agricultural catchments in southeast Sweden
Sammanfattning : Many lakes and coast areas in Sweden and all over the globe suffer from eutrophication, caused by an overload of phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N). In Sweden these emissions from point sources, e.g. LÄS MER
3. Plastidial phosphate transport in plants
Sammanfattning : Phosphorus is an essential element for all living organisms and is central to the genetics and energetics of life. Inorganic phosphate (Pi) is recurrently involved in protein regulation and signal transduction but also in energy transfer as a component of the ATP-molecule. LÄS MER
4. Environmental sanitation situation and solute transport in variably saturated soil in peri-urban Kampala
Sammanfattning : The environmental sanitation situation in Kampala’s peri-urban areas was reviewed and investigated through field studies, structured interviews with personnel from key institutions and administration of questionnaires to households in a selected peri-urban settlement (Bwaise III Parish). In this settlement, specific field and laboratory measurements were undertaken so as to create a better understanding of the environmental sanitation situation, anthropogenic pollution loads and their transport and impact (with a focus on Phosphorus) in Kampala’s Peri-urban areas in pursuit of interventions for improving the environmental sanitation and protecting the shallow groundwater resource there. 5. Role of mycorrhiza symbiosis and phosphorus nutrition in plant growth, photosynthesis and secondary metabolism
Sammanfattning : Inorganic phosphorus (Pi) is an important and often limiting nutrient for plants. Large amounts of Pi fertilizers derived from non-renewable rock phosphorus, are used in agriculture. These are applied in excess but crops take up only a small amount of Pi; the residual Pi ends up in water systems where it causes problems with eutrophication. LÄS MER
