  1. 11. Landscape partitioning and burial processes of soil organic carbon in contrasting areas of continuous permafrost

    Författare :Juri Palmtag; Peter Kuhry; Gustaf Hugelius; Stephan Gruber; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soil organic carbon; total nitrogen; permafrost; cryoturbation; geomorphology; land cover classification; slope processes; texture; upscaling; carbon nitrogen ratio; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Recent studies have shown that permafrost soils in the northern circumpolar region store almost twice as much carbon as the atmosphere. Since soil organic carbon (SOC) pools have large regional and landscape-level variability, detailed SOC inventories from across the northern permafrost region are needed to assess potential remobilization of SOC with permafrost degradation and to quantify the permafrost carbon-climate feedback on global warming. 2. 12. A green future with thawing permafrost mires? : a study of climate-vegetation interactions in European subarctic peatlands

    Författare :Julia Bosiö; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fennoscandia; carbon; greenhouse gas; photosynthesis; PAR; snow; climate change; permafrost; peatland; subarctic;

    Sammanfattning : Climate projections indicate that Arctic and sub-Arctic regions are facing a significant change in climate during the 21st century. With warmer temperatures precipitation is also expected to increase, and in particular winter precipitation. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The influence of climate and permafrost on catchment hydrology

    Författare :Emma Johansson; Georgia Destouni; Sean Carey; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrology; Periglacial; Greenland; Forsmark; Talik; Permafrost Hydrology; Hydrology; hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : The cycling of water in the landscape is influenced by climate change on different time scales and in different directions regarding warming or cooling trends. Along with a changing climate, also the landscape and subsurface conditions, such as permafrost extent, may change in a long-term perspective. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Temporal and spatial dynamics in subarctic peat plateaus and thermokarst lakes

    Författare :A. Britta K. Sannel; Peter Kuhry; Peter Jansson; Ian A. Brown; Serge Payette; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Peatlands; permafrost; subarctic; peat plateau; thermokarst lake; macrofossil analysis; carbon nitrogen ratio; peat accumulation; carbon accumulation; remote sensing; binary encoding; time-series analysis; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Permafrost peatlands are widespread at high northern latitudes and are important soil organic carbon reservoirs. A future warming in these areas, as suggested by global climate models, can cause thawing and increased ground subsidence (thermokarst), resulting in changes in surface hydrology and ecosystem functioning. 5. 15. Carbon Emissions from Western Siberian Inland Waters

    Författare :Svetlana Serikova; Jan Karlsson; Oleg S. Pokrovsky; Hjalmar Laudon; Peter Raymond; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbon; carbon dioxide; methane; carbon emissions; river; lake; inland waters; permafrost; Siberia; Limnology; limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Inland waters (i.e. rivers, streams, lakes, ponds) emit carbon (C) into the atmosphere. The magnitude of global inland water C emission has been estimated to equal the global ocean C sink, thus making inland waters an important component of the global C cycle. LÄS MER
