  1. 1. Remote sensing of supra-glacial lakes on the west Greenland Ice Sheet

    Författare :A. Malin Johansson; Ian A. Brown; Peter Jansson; Johan Kleman; Andreas Ahlstrøm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Supra-glacial lakes; Greenland Ice Sheet; Ice melting; Remote sensing; SAR; MODIS; Time-series analysis; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The Greenland Ice Sheet is the largest ice sheet in the northern hemisphere. Ongoing melting of the ice sheet, resulting in increased mass loss relative to the longer term trend, has raised concerns about the stability of the ice sheet. Melt water generated at the surface is temporarily stored in supra-glacial lakes on the ice sheet. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Temporal and spatial dynamics in subarctic peat plateaus and thermokarst lakes

    Författare :A. Britta K. Sannel; Peter Kuhry; Peter Jansson; Ian A. Brown; Serge Payette; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Peatlands; permafrost; subarctic; peat plateau; thermokarst lake; macrofossil analysis; carbon nitrogen ratio; peat accumulation; carbon accumulation; remote sensing; binary encoding; time-series analysis; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Permafrost peatlands are widespread at high northern latitudes and are important soil organic carbon reservoirs. A future warming in these areas, as suggested by global climate models, can cause thawing and increased ground subsidence (thermokarst), resulting in changes in surface hydrology and ecosystem functioning. 3. 3. Holocene dynamics in subarctic peat plateaus of west-central Canada : Vegetation succession, peat accumulation and permafrost history

    Författare :A. Britta K. Sannel; Peter Kuhry; Peter Jansson; Ian Brown; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peatlands; permafrost; carbon accumulation; fire; subarctic; Holocene; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Dynamics in vegetation, permafrost and peat and net carbon accumulation rates throughout the Holocene have been studied in two subarctic peat plateaus of west-central Canada through plant macrofossil analysis, geochemical analyses and AMS radiocarbon dating. Peatland formation at the studied sites began around 6600-5900 cal yr BP as a result of paludification of upland forests. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Causes and Perceptions of Environmental Change in the Mangroves of Rufiji Delta, Tanzania : Implications for Sustainable Livelihood and Conservation

    Författare :Simon Mwansasu; Lars-Ove Westerberg; Annika Dahlberg; Ian Brown; Ian Bryceson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Mangroves are ecosystems with enormous ecological importance, supporting both terrestrial and marine food webs. They provide ecosystem services (e.g. food, medicines, fuel, constructing material) to communities near and far. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Studies in Glacier Mass Balance : Measurement and its errors

    Författare :Andrew Mercer; Peter Jansson; Gunhild Rosqvist; Ian Brown; Jonathan Carrivick; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glaciology; Mass Balance; Measurement Errors; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The study of the surface mass balance of valley glaciers has a long history but one that is dogged by uncertainty and errors, and uncertainty about those errors. These problems are acknowledged by the glaciological community and have been examined and formalised in several publications. LÄS MER
