  1. 11. Selenium cytotoxicity in cancer

    Författare :Marita Wallenberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Selenium is an essential trace element, present in the 21st amino acid selenocysteine, which is specifically incorporated into selenoproteins. Today, there are 25 identified selenoproteins in humans, whereof many comprises redox active functions to uphold the intracellular redox balance. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Novel insights into vacuole-mediated control of plant growth and immunity

    Författare :Qinsong Liu; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Plant vacuoles are organelles with numerous biological functions in growth, development, and stress responses. These include maintenance of turgor pressure, storage of minerals and proteins, and degradation of cellular content delivered by endosomal trafficking and autophagy pathways. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Control of reactive oxygen species homeostasis in response to environmental stress

    Författare :Malgorzata Plaszczyca; Katharina Pawlowski; Jean-Jacques Drevon; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stress; antioxidant defense; ascorbate peroxidase; aerenchyma; actinorhiza; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Plants are exposed to various fluctuations in their environmental conditions - light intensity, temperature, water status - and have to adapt in order to survive. Plant acclimatory responses can include the formation of new tissues, e.g., aerenchyma, or the activation of defense systems, e. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Constructing a timetable of autumn senescence in aspen

    Författare :Johanna Keskitalo; Stefan Jansson; Howard Thomas; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Populus tremula; autumn senescence; senescence-associated genes; cellular timetable; transcriptional timetable; cDNA microarrays; EST sequencing; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : During the development and lifecycle of multicellular organisms, cells have to die, and this occurs by a process called programmed cell death or PCD, which can be separated from necrosis or accidental cell death (Pennell and Lamb, 1997). Senescence is the terminal phase in the development of an organism, organ, tissue or cell, where nutrients are remobilized from the senescing parts of the plant into other parts, and the cells of the senescing organ or tissue undergo PCD if the process is not reversed in time. 5. 15. Genetic Mechanisms Regulating the Spatiotemporal Modulation of Proliferation Rate and Mode in Neural Progenitors and Daughter Cells during Embryonic CNS Development

    Författare :Behzad Yaghmaeian Salmani; Stefan Thor; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Mattias Mannervik; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The central nervous system (CNS) is a hallmark feature of animals with a bilateral symmetry: bilateria and can be sub-divided into the brain and nerve cord. One of the prominent properties of the CNS across bilateria is the discernible expansion of its anterior part (brain) compared with the posterior one (nerve cord). LÄS MER
