26. From endothelial cells to the vascular network : How cell migration and proliferation are orchestrated to build lymphatic vessels
Sammanfattning : Lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) migrate across body to form a branched network, which is crucial for fluid drainage and immune cell trafficking of the tissues. However, the molecular mechanisms behind the spatiotemporal regulation and fine-tuning of LEC migration remain largely unknown. LÄS MER
27. The Foxf2 gene in development and disease
Sammanfattning : The Foxf2 gene in development and disease Azadeh Reyahi Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Gothenburg, Box 462, SE 405 30, Göteborg, Sweden Abstract In this thesis I present our recent data on the involvement and the mechanism of action of the forkhead transcription factor Foxf2 in development of the brain microvasculature, formation of the blood-brain barrier, control of the intestinal stem cell niche, and fusion of the secondary palate. The potential clinical signifi- cance of these findings is strengthened by a correlation between Foxf2 expres- sion and intestinal adenoma formation, and by association between genetic vari- ants in human FOXF2 and incident stroke. 28. Phenotypic and functional analysis of the mesenchymal stromal cell compartment in the thymus
Sammanfattning : T cells are key cellular components of the adaptive immune system that play a critical role in our defense against pathogens and cancer but also contribute to pathology in the setting of chronic inflammation and autoimmunity. The thymus constitutes the body's major T cell production site, where bone marrow-derived progenitors migrate in a co-ordinated fashion through anatomically distinct cortical and medullary regions that are composed of epithelial and mesenchymal stromal elements. 29. Exploring the functional heterogeneity of the tumor microenvironment
Sammanfattning : Tumors are complex entities, composed of different functional populations of malignant and stromal cells. There is an emerging importance to understand previously unmapped communication routes between different cell and non-cell compartments of the tumor microenvironment. LÄS MER
30. On angiogenesis modulation
Sammanfattning : During evolution, the transition from unicellular to multicellular organisms required the origin of a transport system capable of interconnecting specialized cells throughout the body of the organism. In higher animals, this route of transportation is the cardiovascular system, which allows gas exchange, and transport of immune cells, hormones, macromolecules, nutrients and waste products. LÄS MER
