26. Multiscale Methods and Uncertainty Quantification
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we consider two great challenges in computer simulations of partial differential equations: multiscale data, varying over multiple scales in space and time, and data uncertainty, due to lack of or inexact measurements. We develop a multiscale method based on a coarse scale correction, using localized fine scale computations. 27. Sequential Monte Carlo Filters and Integrated Navigation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we consider recursive Bayesian estimation in general, and sequential Monte Carlo filters in particular, applied to integrated navigation. Based on a large number of simulations of the model, the sequential Monte Carlo filter, also referred to as particle filter, provides an empirical estimate of the full posterior probability density of the system. 28. Studies of Supported Catalysts for Environmental Applications: - Flow Reactor Measurements, Monte Carlo Simulations and High Throughput Screening
Sammanfattning : The use of heterogeneous catalysts for environmental applications, primarily for reduction of harmful emissions from vehicles and stationary sources, has successively increased during the last three decades. Driven by emission regulations, research and development within this area attract large interest and resources, especially for automotive applications. LÄS MER
29. Breaking the Dimensionality Curse of Voronoi Tessellations
Sammanfattning : Considering the broadness of the area of artificial intelligence, interpretations of the underlying methodologies can be commonly narrowed down to either a probabilistic or a geometric point of view. Such separation is especially prevalent in more classical "pre-neural-network" machine learning if one compares Bayesian modelling with more deterministic models like nearest neighbors. LÄS MER
30. Towards Efficient Monte Carlo Calculations in Reactor Physics : Criticality, Kinetics and Burnup Problems
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a compilation of work focused on Monte Carlo crit-icality, kinetics and burnup calculations in reactor physics. Performing suchcalculations usually comes at a high computing cost. Therefore, the main mo-tivation behind the presented work is lowering the computing cost of MonteCarlo calculations. LÄS MER
